We often receive questions from visitors asking what is the "best" way to travel from Barcelona Airport to their hotel or a destination in Barcelona city centre e.g. Barcelona cruise port. The word best really depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for the most convenient, secure, comfortable means of transport with peace of mind then a private airport transfer would be our recommendation.
How does the private transfer service work?
The private transfer service is a pre-booked service that you can arrange online in advance of your trip. We have provided links to do this at the foot of this page.
Once you have made your booking you need to print off the booking voucher and make sure to bring it with you on the day.
The booking voucher also has important instructions that you will need to read carefully. You would need to call the transfer service before your trip on the contact telephone number given on the voucher. This is to confirm details about your trip.
Your driver will be waiting to greet you at your specific arrivals gate on the day of your arrival. The driver will wait for you even if you flight is delayed. Your driver will identify himself at the gates with a card with your name on it. Your driver will escort you to your private waiting car and assist you with your luggage. You will then be driven in an air condition, comfortable car to your destination in the city centre and your driver will also help you with your bags.
When would you recommend a private transfer service?
The advantage of a private transfer is that everything can be arranged in advance of your trip so you have the peace of mind knowing your transfer is organized and paid for.
With a private transfer you will experience a more personalised service making the entire transfer, from start to finish, an enjoyable experience. There is no need to work out your route, handle foreign currency or feel anxious about not being able to speak the language - everything is arranged for you in advance.
When should I consider a private transfer?
We have summarized below each of the occasions when a private transfer would be preferred over public transport:
1. You want the most comfortable, convenient and secure way to transfer from Barcelona Airport.
2. You appreciate personalised attention secure in the knowledge that your driver will be waiting to assist you your arrivals gate.
3. You have not visited Barcelona before and do not speak the language.
4. You are travelling on a long-haul flight and are likely to have jet-lag.
5. You have a special occasion in which you want everything to go smoothly.
6. You are not on a tight budget.
7. You don't want to deal with the inconvenience of possible strike action by public transport workers.
8. You want to arrange and book your transfer in advance of your trip.
If your requirements meet any of those listed above then we would recommend you consider a private transfer - especially for your arrival leg of the journey.
Is a private transfer suitable for me if I'm on a tight budget?
If you are on a budget then the private transfer is probably not for you and it may be best to consider public transport - which we have written about in-depth throughout this site.
If you are on a budget then you could consider the private transfer for when you arrive at the airport and then just take public transport on your return journey. However overall we would say if you're watching your pennies then public transport will be perfectly adequate for your needs.
