Guide to Transfer from Barcelona Airport to Calella

Calella is a small and picturesque coastal town in the North of Catalunya – part of the Costa Brava. It is worth remembering that Calella is a small area – most transport to the area is indirect. There are no coaches of trains from Barcelona Airport to Calella. However, once in Barcelona city centre there are various train and coach options that are reasonably regular.

This page covers the options for transferring from Barcelona Airport to the centre of Calella. Options include train, coach, bus, car and taxi.


Transfer to Calella from Barcelona Airport by Train

There are no direct trains from Barcelona Airport to Calella. Therefore, it is necessary to take a train into the centre of Barcelona to head out towards the south of Spain.

Take the Barcelona Airport Train – The C2 to Estacio Sants. At Estacio Sants you will need to change. There are an abundance of trains that run from Estacio Sants to Calella – approximately four every hour.

To find out the time of this train it is necessary to go to the local trains section of the Renfe website - Cercanías. The train that you will be catching is the C1 – destination Blanes. The journey lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

If you are arriving into Terminal 1 (T1) you will not be able to walk straight to the train station, as it is 4km away. You will need to take a shuttle bus from outside the terminal.


Tip When you are at the station, it is important to be careful that you get onto the correct train. You will find that the board on the platform displaying the trains will display the following train, rather than the one that is on the platform. So, if the display system flashes up with the ‘Blanes’ train, remember that this will be the following train rather than the one on the platform. If you are confused, just ask – people are generally very helpful.


Transfer to Calella from Barcelona Airport by Coach

There is no coach directly from Barcelona Airport to Calella. You will have to go into the centre of Barcelona to catch a coach – from Barcelona Nord. Sagales coaches run from Barcelona Nord coach station two times a day to Calella.

If you are coming from Barcelona Airport, there is no direct route from the airport to Barcelona Nord. A taxi will cost around 20 – 25 euros and take approximately 25 minutes from Terminal 2 (T2). From T1 the taxi will cost 25 - 30 euros and take approximately 30 minutes.

Alternatively, you can catch the Barcelona Airport Train – The C2 to Passeig de Gracia. This is a twenty five-minute journey and trains run twice an hour. From Passeig de Gracia you will need to change to the Metro – take the (Red Line, L3) from Passeig de Gracia to Urquinaona, then change to the (Yellow Line, L4) and take it one stop to Arc de Triomf. Barcelona Nord coach station is located directly outside the train station – right in front of you when exiting the Metro. See above for details on how to get to the train station from T1.

Catching the bus to Barcelona city centre may prove slightly easier than the train for getting Barcelona Nord coach station. The Aerobus Airport Bus and the normal TMB Airport Bus and the Barcelona Airport Nightbus all go to Plaza Espanya. From Plaza Espanya you can change to the Metro and take the (Red Line, L3) directly to Arc de Triomf.

Check the Barcelona Nord Website for the coach times, prices and frequencies. In general, coaches run twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening. The coach journey lasts approximately one hour.


Transfer to Calella from Barcelona Airport by Bus

There is no direct bus from Barcelona Airport to Calella. It is necessary to head towards the city centre and take a coach or train from there. The Aerobus Barcelona Airport express Bus runs from both T1 and T2 get off at Plaza Espanya. From here take the metro to Estacio Sants (Barcelona Sants). From Esatcio Sants you can take the train to Calella (see above for more details).

If you wish to take the coach to Calella, it is best to take the bus to Plaza Espanya and head to Barcelona Nord from there (see above for more details).


Transfer to Calella from Barcelona Airport by Taxi

The distance from Barcelona Airport to Calella is approximately 45 km. This will take about forty minutes to one hour in a taxi, costing around 60 euros.

Calella is reasonably simple to reach from Barcelona. Once you have transferred from Barcelona Airport into Barcelona city centre, you have various options for finding your way to Calella. Bear in mind that trains are a lot more frequent then coaches. A transfer from Barcelona Airport to Calella should not prove too difficult to do.
