Guide to Transport And Transfer from Barcelona Airport to Costa Brava

The Costa Brava is one of Spain most celebrated coastlines – in the northern part of Catalunya. It is made up of many small coastal towns that can be reached by various methods – none of which are particularly straightforward from Barcelona airport (El Prat de Llobregat Aeropuerto). There are no direct coaches to the Costa Brava area from Barcelona airport, however coaches leave from Barcelona Nord coach station to various parts of the Costa Brava. Barcelona Nord station is situated in Barcelona city centre. There are also trains that run from Barcelona to the Blanes in the Costa Brava.

Transfer to Costa Brava from Barcelona Airport by Train

There are no direct trains from Barcelona Airport to the Costa Brava area. Therefore, it is necessary to take a train into the centre of Barcelona to head out towards the North of Catalunya.

Take the Barcelona Airport Train – The C2 to Estacio Sants. If you are arriving into Terminal 1 (T1) you will not be able to walk straight to the train station, as it is 4km away. You will need to take a shuttle bus from outside the terminal.

At Estacio Sants you will need to change. From Estacio Sants, there are numerous trains leaving to various parts of the Costa Brava. For many of the smaller towns, such as Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, it is necessary to catch a train to Blanes – from Blanes it is necessary to catch a bus.

Transfer to Costa Brava from Barcelona Airport by Coach

Barcelona Nord Bus Station

There is no coach directly from Barcelona Airport to Costa Brava. You will have to go into the centre of Barcelona to catch a coach – coaches only run from Barcelona Nord bus station.

If you are coming from the airport, there is no direct route from the airport to Barcelona Nord. A taxi will cost around 25 euros and take approximately 25 minutes from Terminal 2 (T2). From Terminal 1 (T1) it will cost around 30 euros and take approximately 30 minutes.

From Barcelona Nord Coach Station there are various coaches leaving to various areas of the Costa Brava. These run with different coach companies. Therefore, it is easiest to check the Barcelona Nord Website. Under the ‘Time Schedule’ section it is possible to enter the station the area to which you wish to travel. It will offer the various journeys available to you.

It is worth checking the various routes that the buses can take. Some buses stop at far more stations than others. For example, there is a bus that stops only at Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar. Whereas the bus to Blanes stops at numerous places along the way.

Transfer to Costa Brava from Barcelona Airport by Bus

There is no direct bus from Barcelona Airport to Costa Brava. It is necessary to head towards the city centre to take either the train from Estacio Sants (Barcelona Sants) or the coach from Barcelona Nord Bus station.

To travel to Barcelona sants the easiest way would be by RENFE train from the airport which has a stop at Estacio Sants (Barcelona Sants) however if you wish to take the bus you will need to make a few changes. You will need to take the Aerobus Barcelona Airport Express Bus which runs from both T1 and T2. The Aerobus has a stop at Plaza Espanya and you would need to get off at this stop. From Plaza you can then take the metro green line to Estacio Sants. Once at Estacio sants you could then take the train to the Costa Brava.

If you did not wish to take the Aerobus from Barcelona Airport to Plaza Espanya then both the TMB Airport Bus No.46 and the Airport Nightbus N17 also go to Plaza Espanya from where you would need to take the metro as explained above to go to Estacio Sants.

Transfer to Costa Brava from Barcelona Airport by Taxi

The transfer option you choose to the Costa Brava from Barcelona airport all depends on which area of the Costa Brava you wish to travel to. The coast of the Costa Brava is long and the coastal roads are likely to be winding. If you are interested in taking a taxi to your final destination it is best to call ahead to see what price they can estimate.

If you are interested in visiting various parts of the Costa Brava, it may prove more convenient and perhaps cost effective (if there is a group of you), to hire a car. The Costa Brava is a large area of Catalunya. If you are hoping to head to the smaller and more picturesque costal villages, this is going to be more difficult if you do not have a car. However, there is always an option of some kind – normally a bus from the nearest big station. It is worth planning these journeys in advance so that you don’t find yourself stranded in an area where you don’t want to be. Transfers from Barcelona Airport to the Costa Brava are often complicated but always do-able.
