Guide to Transfer from Barcelona Airport to Tarragona

Tarragona is a town about 80 kilometres south of Barcelona. It can be reached by a direct coach from Barcelona Airport – making it a convenient transfer journey.

Transfer to Tarragona from Barcelona Airport by Train

Barcelona Airport Train Station

There are no direct trains from Barcelona Airport to Tarragona. Therefore, it is necessary to take a train into the centre of Barcelona to head out towards the south of Catalunya.

Take the Barcelona Airport Train – The C2 to Estacio Sants (Barcelona Sants). If you are arriving into Terminal 1 (T1) you will not be able to walk straight to the train station, as it is 4km away. You will need to take a shuttle bus from outside the terminal.

At Estacio Sants you will need to change. There are an abundance of trains that run from Estacio Sants to Tarragona – approximately four every hour. The trains vary in journey time – some stopping at many stations and some direct.

To find out the time of this train it is necessary to go to the Renfe website. The train that you will be catching is does not have one particular name, as various trains travel through Tarragona – including the Catalunya Expres, the Regional expres, the Mare Nostrum, Alaris, Talgo and Euromed. The journey lasts between approximately 1 – 1.5 hours.

Transfer to Tarragona from Barcelona Airport by Coach

There is a coach that goes from Barcelona Airport to Tarragona. The Alsa Rápid Aeroport. There is a bus that leaves from outside T2 and then continues on to T1. It leaves four times a day and the journey lasts for 1 hour 15 minutes from T2 and 1 hour from T1. Check the Alsa Website for exact times and ticket prices.

Transfer to Tarragona from Barcelona Airport by Bus

There is a direct coach from Barcelona Airport to Tarragona (see above). There is no normal TMB bus that runs from Barcelona to Tarragona.

The Aerobus

You can first take the Aerobus Barcelona Airport Express Bus which has a stop at Plaza Espanya from both T1 and T2. From Plaza Espanya you can take the green line of the Metro two stops to Estacio Sants. From Estacio Sants you can take the train to Tarragona (see above for more details).

Transfer to Tarragona from Barcelona Airport by Taxi

The distance from Barcelona Airport to Tarragona is approximately 80 km. This will take about one hour twenty minutes to one hour in a taxi, costing around 80 euros.

Tarragona is a popular location for those wishing to get away from the hustle bustle of Barcelona to a more peaceful urban space. The direct coach from Barcelona Airport makes it very easy to reach from the airport. However, if the coach times don’t suit you, a train from Estacio Sants is fairly simple – keep an eye out for the direct trains as they will be far quicker than the regional ones with multiple stops.
