Casa Batllo (Photo 9 of 9)

A close up shot of the main window. If you look carefully you can see a large pillar in the window. Gaudi believed that every part of a building should not only be functional but also be an object of beauty and in keeping with the rest of the building. To this end even the supporting pillars in Casa Batlló are ornamental and add to the aesthetics of the building.

If you take a tour inside Casa Batlló you will see two large pillars in the entrance to the courtyard. There has been much debate as why Gaudi would have done this as it obscures the view of the beautiful courtyard from the doorway. As yet I don't know the answer to this -

perhaps if you visit the house you might come up with an explanation, if so let me know!
