F1 Barcelona Testing in 2008
By Paul Yates
Good News for F1 Barcelona fans! Not only have the dates been confirmed for the April F1 Barcelona test as I predicted (14th, 15th & 16th ) but now formula one is going to run more tests during 2008 at the Circuit de Catalunya through the summer.
Wait for the best bit……..whether you’re a complete F1 addict or a novice who just wants to understand what all the fuss is about, the daily entry price to the circuit is just 5 euros!!! That covers entry to the circuit and seating in the grandstands from 09:00 until 18:00 (17:00 for the winter tests) so I can’t think of a better place to do my sunbathing. Tickets are available from entry gate no 3 and children under 11 go free.
For an extra 30 euros you can get the full Monty and go on a tour of the circuit whilst the cars are flying round the track. The tour includes a visit to the drivers briefing room, the press room, the control tower (where Charlie Whiting starts the race) and the podium – so now we can all feel what it’s like to stand on the top step and win a Grand Prix. Unfortunately there’s no champagne but the tour is completed with a visit to the paddock area, the track services and a goody bag to round it off.
Keep an autograph book handy, you never know who you might bump into walking around the paddock area.
The tour lasts an hour and a half and there are three tours per day – 11.45, 13.00 & 15.20. Tickets are available at entry gate 2 and I strongly suggest getting there early because the maximum group size for each tour is 14.
So if you’re planning a visit to Barcelona this year and you fancy a low cost opportunity to understand what formula one is all about then maybe this is too good an opportunity to miss.
When are the 2008 F1 Barcelona test dates?
There’s the usual winter ones running up to the Grand Prix:-
February 1st 2nd & 3rd
February 25th 26th & 27th
April 14th 15th & 16th
During the summer you’ve got two opportunities:-
June 12th 13th & 14th
July 23rd 24th & 25th
And if all else fails there’s November 17th 18th & 19th.
STOP PRESS
It’s just been announced that Super Aguri will launch their 2008 F1 Barcelona contender at the Circuit de Catalunya on Tuesday 19th February. At the launch will be team principle and former F1 driver Aguri Suzuki and both of the team’s drivers – Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson.
If you’re in the area, it must be worth a visit for the F1 Barcelona race this year. Hope to see you there.
