Top Five Club Nights in Barcelona at New Year

New Year's Eve in Barcelona is generally enjoyed differently to in other countries. The night typically begins with a long dinner shared with family or friends (for more information see our Guide to Spanish Cultural Christmas Traditions. Link at the foot of this page). This dinner sees in the New Year. It is not until after this that younger people start to head out to clubs and bars. For this reason a lot of the clubs don't really get going until after 02:00. You may choose to book somewhere to eat out for dinner prior to hitting the clubs. Alternatively, you could choose one venue that covers all aspects of the evening, including food. I have taken a detailed look into what sorts of places could provide a perfect venue in Barcelona for New Years Eve and chosen some of the most interesting options.

Getting around on New Year´s Eve can often prove to be difficult. Thankfully, the Metro will be running all night, meaning that you will not need to rely on taxis- leaving options open for heading further afield.

Mephisto Nightclub

The club, Sala Mephisto, is traditionally a rock venue and holds approximately 450 people. It is a large space and its high ceilings and lack of comfortable chill-out areas may not appeal to all. However, with DJs who pride themselves on playing to a party crowd, the focus of this night will definitely be on the dancing.

The venue is not in the centre of town so you will probably need to catch the Metro to get closer to the club. This is the norm for most large clubs in Barcelona and is often worth the extra effort for larger soundsystems that aren’t available in the city centre.

Tip Sala Mephisto is known for being a rock venue. However, for New Years eve in te past it has been known to offer other music styles. If you are looking for a very particular type of music it is worth checkng what the line up for the night is prior to heading to the club.

Razzmatazz Club

This super-club could prove to be a great choice for New Year´s Eve. With five rooms playing all different genres of music, there really is something for everybody. This may prove useful if you are hitting the town with a large group of people - although, once you are through the doors of the club there is a high possibility that you will not be able to find them for the rest of the night!

For more information on Razzmatazz the club, please check our Guide to Gig Venues in Barcelona.

Pepino Restaurant and Cocktail Bar

Pepino’s Bar

This is restaurant and cocktail bar in Raval- an area off the Ramblas that is known to be popular for small, independent bars and restaurants. It has an interesting and cosy interior with both spaces for dancing and spaces to sit and eat or drink. It is popular amongst a trendy and more indie crowd, generally playing indie, rock and pop music.

The downstairs of the venue offers a space for drinks and dancing, whilst the upstairs offers a restaurant serving high quality modern European food. This place could prove the perfect venue to cover all of the needs of your night – from dinner, tight through to that last cocktail.

Angels & Kings Bar

This space is the bar/club in the Hotel ME. On the sixth floor of a large skyscraper hotel in Poble Nou, it is a classy space with some stunning views of the city from its outdoor terrace area. On exiting the extremely speedy lift you will enter a black and intimate space filled with red velvet curtains, interesting furniture and mug shots of rock icons.

The crowd in this bar are generally young, trendy and well-to-do. This could prove a very glamorous setting for your New Years Eve celebrations.
