So glad I read your safety guide before going to Barcelona. We were approached on three occasions by people with clip-boards supposedly seeking signatures to petitions. The first attempt was made as we sat in the park near the Arc de Triumf when my wife's bag was the target as we ate our lunch in the sunshine. After repeatedly saying no to their requests for signatures the female lent forward placing the clipboard over my wife's bag. I had to grab her hands and force her away - not something I would have done if I hadn't read your warnings.
This scam was tried on two other occasions which we neatly sidestepped. Otherwise the holiday break was great and I certainly enjoyed the architecture of the city. Your advice on clothing is also helpful. As far as carrying items, I had a fold up carrier bag which has a shoulder strap and looks like I have just come from the supermarket rather than a tourist - seemed to work. |

Being currently "between jobs" and as I have visited Barcelona on a couple of occasions, I was given the task by friends (who will soon be visiting Barcelona for the first time) to come up with a definitive list of things to do and places to see in B. After trawling the net for a couple of hours, and making copious written notes, I came across this website and, well, JOB DONE !! I simply could not match the amount of concise information given. Brilliant maps, directions, photos, restaurant reviews etc etc. You name it and it is in this site.
I can see another Barcelona trip for me in the near future !!

Barcelona was the first city I visited in Europe. It really was a great place to visit. I loved the buildings especially all the balconies. The plane trees are just great. The old city is fascinating and wonderful to wander around. The subway is easy to use especially if you have heavy baggage. We were there on the May Day weekend - what a buzz. Lots of english signs around which were very helpful. I am very keen to return. The only negative is large amount of graffiti around the place. This should really be dealt with.

I was in Barcelona in July 2007 during a cruise of the Mediterranean. It was the first time I had ever been in Europe and the city has so many great things to see and do and during our 5 hour City tour we were fortunate to see so many of the great sites. My favourite was Gaudi - Park Guell. I love the pictures on your site. Looking at them makes it feel like I was there just the other day. Barcelona was certainly our favourite stop during our Cruise and I can’t wait to go back again and this time I will certainly use your site to plan our tours as I plan on staying much longer next time! | I first visited Barcelona in 1960 and fell in love with the city and Monserrat. For over forty years I have been telling my wife (and others) how much I loved the city. I have described Monserrat as being as close to Heaven as a human can be while still on earth.
We finally visited in Oct of 2006. Montjuic, Las Ramblas, Barri Gothic, La Sagrada Familla, all the Gaudi buildings and Monserrat. My wife's comment was that it all 'was as advertised' by me for so long. She also, has fallen in love with Barcelona.

Just wanted to let u know I returned from the lovely Barcelona late last night.
We stayed at the Jazz Hotel - what can I say - it was fab - so modern so handy to everything and yet so quiet.
My friend and I loved your city - we shopped till we dropped - whilst it wasnt sunbathing weather in November it was certainly ok for t shirts and we were sitting outside Cafe Zurick at 12 midnite two nights watching th world stroll by.
I have travelled to many places but this has to be the tops

Hi, and a big THANKYOU. Apart from taking a standard Barcelona
tourist guide with us, we planned our entire stay in Barcelona
from the information contained within your site, and we were
not disappointed. The detail here is precise yet concise, and
the images also help enormously. Staying just off La
Ramblas we were concerned about pickpockets,
but worries were unfounded, we saw no trouble. My trip highlight,
the highly impressive but empty Nou
Camp on the Saturday, followed by a jam packed Nou Camp
at the U2 concert on Sunday. A night to be long remembered.

-experience this. Go when it's dark and visit the cathedral,see
the crested swans lit by candle light on the raised ponds in
the courtyard and then go outside to see the amazing stalls

I have just returned from Barcelona and went in a group of
5 18yr old gals and i would like to say that i had a great time,
and i witnessed someones bag being stolen on the beach however
if you leave your bag alone you've left yourself open! i had
a brilliant time in Barcelona and despite a few over friendly
spanish guys didnt feel unsafe at all - i would recommend it
to anyone it really is a great city!!!

Thank you for a wonderfully helpful and
informative newsletter. I've just returned from Barcelona
and Costa Brava with many experiences and memories to share.
I utilized so much of the information that I obtained from
your newsletter from travel tips, restaurants and maps.
It would be hard to find a more beautiful, exotic city where
the people are friendly, the food fantastic, and so many interesting
sites.
In spite of an attempt to pick my husband's pocket in the
Metro (he grabbed the thief's arm), we felt safe and traveled
easily around the city and up the coast. And compared to other

CHEAP new restaurant in this issue. WE love noodles! Our
first trip to Europe and are arriving in Barcelona via a transatlantic

on 25 December, your excellent site has reassured us we will

none of them had the answers to the things I needed to know.
