Review Advance Hotel Barcelona

Advance Hotel
Reservation Information For The Advance Hotel

Advance Hotel is a design hotel in the heart of Eixample and next to Plaza Universitat in Barcelona centre. It is well located for tourists who wish to be close to the city’s heart and the popular attractions, but is located on a relatively quiet and leafy street, allowing the hotel to have a relaxing quality about it.

The hotel has an attractive exterior with modern canopies and large windows working well in contrast to the old building with wrought iron balconies and a large, intricately patterned wooden front door. The hotel lobby is relaxing. There is jazz playing, low lighting and comfy brown velvet couches. The area is interspersed with silver pillars and large red vases, adding colour to the matt tones of the grey slate coffee table and the wood effect front desk. This is definitely a hotel for design lovers – its facilities are relatively standard, but everything that is on offer is offered with style, from the design magazines in the lobby to the small fireplace.

Hotel Facilities:

There is no pool or gym or restaurant in the hotel. A buffet breakfast is available from 07:00 – 11:00. It costs 14.00euros (plus tax) per person. There is a bar area that is open from 10:00 – 23:00.

Room service is available in the hotel from 13:00 – 22:00. This is food ordered from a small restaurant across the road from the hotel.

Short stay (day use) rooms are not available.

Check-in time is at 13:00 and check-out time is at 12:00.

Business Facilities:

There are no meeting/conference rooms in the hotel. There is Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel free of charge. There is one computer available for use with internet access. It costs 1 euro per 15 minutes.

Facilities for the Disabled:

There is one room in the hotel that has been adapted for disable use. It has widened doors and a special bath. There are lifts to all floors.

Rooms:

There are a total of 36 rooms in the hotel, over 5 floors. All of the rooms are doubles or twins. There are some rooms that are large enough to fit an extra bed.

All of the front facing rooms have balconies. There are four rooms at the back of the hotel that have terraces with a set of tables and chairs. These rooms do not come at an extra cost. It is, therefore, worth requesting them when booking your room. Those who require an especially quiet room should request one at the interior of the hotel.

All rooms include air-conditioning, satellite television, telephone, soundproofing and mini-bar.

The entire hotel is non-smoking.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

Advance Hotel is located a two minute walk from Plaza Universitat. This square is the home of Barcelona University’s most important buildings. It is a large and traffic filled square, leading to Plaza Catalunya which sits at the top of the Ramblas – one of Barcelona’s most popular tourist attractions.

The hotel is also a 5 – 10 minute walk from Passeig de Gracia. This is Barcelona’s shopping Mecca. It is where all of the major designer shops can be found. These include Burberry, Gucci and Prada. Design lovers should also check out Vinçon, on Passeig de Gracia. This large store offers all things design, from furniture to prints and bags.

Passeig de Gracia is also where two of Gaudi’s most famous buildings can be found – Casa Batlló and La Pedrera. Casa Batlló is a building with colourful tiles depicting a large dragon’s tale on its roof. Its beautiful wrought iron balconies look like masks from a Masquerade ball. La Pedrera is a sea-inspired building with a spiral staircase that resembles the inside of a shell and an undulating roof that offers views of the city.

Closer to the hotel, on Calle Sepulveda, there are also some treats in store. The street offers its fair share of cafes and shops. La Bola is a small shop that is popular amongst record and comic collectors.

Those in need of general amenities will. Find everything that they need on the Ramblas – pharmacies, banks, bureaus de change, internet cafes and supermarkets.

How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Passeig de Gracia in 25 minutes. You can either use the T10 transport ticket from the airport (T10 costs 7.70 euros for 10 separate journeys on Barcelona public transport) or you can buy a single fare ticket for 2.80 euros. You then change at Passeig de Gracia onto the Purple Line metro and travel one stop to Universitat. Your hotel is then 10 minutes walk from the metro.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus ' to Plaza de Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 - 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from Plaza de Catalunya. You can take a taxi from the train station if you have lots of luggage. This will take about 5 minutes and cost around 6 euros. Alternatively you can take the metro on the Purple Line from Plaza de Catalunya to Universitat where the hotel is just a short walk away. It should take around 10 minutes.
