Review Ayre Gran Via Hotel, Barcelona

Ayre Gran Via Hotel
Reservation Information For The Ayre Gran Via Hotel

Ayre Gran Via Hotel, Barcelona is a large and modern hotel within a minute’s walk of Plaza Espanya and the Fira Bacrelona conference centre. The hotel’s existence is likely to have come about as a result of the Fira Barcelona, and thus many of its clientele are business people. However, the hotel is also relatively well placed for tourists – close to Plaza Espanya. Those who wish to be at the centre of Barcelona’s touristic hub may wish to find a hotel closer to the ‘old town’.

The hotel’s exterior is large with shiny black sheets covering many of the windows. The lobby area is spacious and airy with high ceilings. Black slate floors lead to the long front desk. An area to the left of the entrance offers semi-circle shaped grey velvet couches with bright orange cushions. The floor of the seating area is covered in a real cow-skin fur rug. Thick white pillars punctuate the space that sits on the street corner – allowing for additional size.

A bustling and sprawling restaurant and bar area sits just of the reception. It gives a sense of the activity and business that take place in the hotel.

Hotel Facilities:

There is no pool or gym in the hotel.

There is a restaurant on the ground floor serving all meals. Buffet breakfast is served from 07:00 – 10:30 during the week and from 07:00 – 11:00 at weekends. It costs 15 euros per person. Lunch is served from 13:00 – 15:00 and a set menu (‘Menu del Dia’) of three courses plus bread and drink is served for 16 euros. Dinner is served from 20:00 – 23:00 and is a la carte.

Pets are not allowed in the hotel.

Short Stay rooms are not available.

Business Facilities:

There are 2 meeting rooms available in the hotel. In theatre style seating hey can both hold 36 people. They can also be combined to create one larger room.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and is free of charge. There is a business centre containing 2 computers. Internet is available and is charged at 4 euros for 30 minutes and 6 euros for 1 hour.

Facilities for the Disabled:

There are 3 rooms available for wheelchair users. They have widened doors and an adapted bathroom. There are lifts to all floors.

Rooms:

There are a total of 189 rooms in the hotel over 9 floors. The rooms available are singles, doubles, twins and Junior Suites (holding a maximum of 3 people).

There are no double glazed windows. Therefore, those hoping for a quiet night’s sleep should request a room at the interior or on the top floors of the hotel.

All rooms include air conditioning, a television, a telephone and a mini-bar (with complimentary water).

Smoking is permitted in the rooms on the seventh and eighth floors.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

Plaza Espanya
Plaza Espanya

Ayre Gran Via Hotel, Barcelona is located a 1 minute walk from Plaza Espanya. This is the home of the Fira Barcelona – one of Barcelona’s largest conference centres. Large conventions for thousands of people are held on a weekly basis in the Fira. For those attending conferences at the Fira, the hotel is particularly convenient.

Plaza Espanya is also where you will find Barcelona’s Palace. The large and busy square is watched down upon by the wide Palace façade, with its numerous staircases and escalators leading to its entrance. The Palace is also the place where the Magic Fountain shows take place at weekends. Please see our Guide to the Magic Fountains.

Plaza Espanya sits at the top of the areas of Raval and Poble Sec. Raval is a part of the ‘old town’ that is less well known than the Gothic Quarter. However, it has its own charm and is becoming increasingly popular amongst the young and trendy of Barcelona. It is the home of the CCCB – a museum of contemporary culture and is jam-packed with interesting bars and independent restaurants.

How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Estacio Sants in 25 minutes. You can either use the T10 transport ticket from the airport (T10 costs 7.70 euros for 10 separate journeys on Barcelona public transport) or you can buy a single fare ticket for 2.80 euros. From here take the Green Line on the metro to Espanya, from the station the hotel is a 2 minute walk. Alternatively, if you have a lot of luggage, a taxi from Estacio Sants would take 5 minutes and cost 6 – 8 euros.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus' to Plaza Espanya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 - 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. A single will cost 4.25 euros. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from Plaza Espanya.
