Azul ApartHotel, Barcelona is located a 2 minute walk from Plaza Espanya. This square is the home of Barcelona’s Palace – a major Barcelona tourist attraction. It is also the home of the Fira Barcelona – one of the city’s largest conference centres and a destination for a large percentage of travelers to Barcelona, attending its various conventions.

Azul is an aparthotel rather than a hotel - its rooms are all 32 metres squared in size and many of them contain kitchens. There is a front desk, as in all hotels, however there are no amenities such as a restaurant, bar or pool.

It is necessary to ring a bell to enter the building. The lobby area is long and thin with green marble floors and walls. The seating area is minimal, with two individual seats facing the front desk. A mirrored wall opposite the front desk provides a feeling of space in the area.

The hotel is well located for tourists who have brought their walking shoes – Plaza Espanya sits at the very top of a range of Barcelona’s tourist attractions. However, a large percentage of customers at the hotel are likely to be those attending various conventions at the Fira.

Hotel Facilities:

There is no pool, gym, restaurant or bar in the aparthotel. A majority of the rooms include kitchens, allowing meals to be made by customers (see below for more details).

Pets are allowed in the hotel provided that they weigh under 5 kilos.

Short stay rooms are not available.

Business Facilities:

There are no meeting rooms available in the hotel. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and is free of charge. There are no other computers for customer use in the hotel.

Facilities for the Disabled:

There is one room available for wheelchair users. It has widened doors and an adapted bathroom. There are lifts to all floors.

Rooms:

There are a total of 32 rooms in the hotel over 6 floors. The rooms available can hold a maximum of 4 people – they each contain a double bed and a double sofa bed. They are all 32 metres squared in size. Some of the rooms contain kitchenettes with utensils – these should be requested when booking.

All of the rooms have double-glazed windows. However, the hotel is located on a main road so those requiring a particularly quiet night’s sleep should request a room at the interior of the hotel.

All rooms include air conditioning, a television, a telephone and a mini-bar.

Smoking is permitted in some of the hotel rooms – these should be requested on booking.

Aparthotel Azul, Barcelona is located a 2 minute walk from Plaza Espanya. This grand and busy square is the home of Barcelona’s Palace. The Palace houses the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (the National Museum of Catalam Art). It is also the scene of a spectacular Magic Fountain show at weekends. The Palace lies at the foot of the area of Montjuic. This is one of the two large hills that flank the city of Barcelona. It is dotted with botanical gardens and benches to sit and take in views overlooking the city.

Plaza Esapanya is also home to the Fira Barcaelona. This is one of the largest convention centres in Barcelona and one of the main reasons that many people come to the city. On a weekly basis the centre plays host to a range of conventions – covering everything from Harley Davidsons to mobile phones and fashion.

Those who are willing to do some walking can head into the centre of the city simply by staying on Garn Via Cortes Catalanes. This large road runs right through the heart of the city.  It passes through Plaza Universitat – the home of Barcelona University that sits a minute’s walk from the top of the Ramblas. Plaza Universitat is a 20 minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel is also a 5 minute walk from Espanya metro station. This will ensure that the majority of the city is within relatively easy reach.

How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Estacio Sants in 25 minutes. You can either use the T10 transport ticket from the airport (T10 costs 7.70 euros for 10 separate journeys on Barcelona public transport) or you can buy a single fare ticket for 2.80 euros. From Estacio Sants take the Green Line on the metro to Espanya. From Espanya metro station the hotel is a 5 minute walk. Alternatively, if you have a lot of luggage, a taxi from Estacio Sants will take 10 minutes and cost 8 – 10 euros.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus' to Plaza Espanya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 - 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. A single will cost 4.25 euros. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from here.
