The simple, 3 star Caledonian Hotel Barcelona is located on Gran Via which is one of Barcelona’s main arteries, running from Placa Espanya through Passeig de Gracia to the other edge of the city.  The hotel is well-located near the centre of the city and Placa Universitat, and is surrounded by good facilities including cafes and restaurants.

Hotel Facilities

The hotel Caledonian is quite simple but popular thanks to its central location.  Just behind the lobby is a ambient-lit, cosy bar which looks like a nice place to escape from the city and have a drink.  There is no restaurant but breakfast is served every morning in the breakfast room.  Wi-Fi is available in the hotel, as is parking.  The hotel offers a laundry and ironing service.

There are no business facilities at the Hotel Caledonian, but there is Wi-Fi throughout so you can keep in touch.

Rooms

The hotel Caledonian Barcelona has 50 rooms, including a non-smoking floor and an executive floor.  The rooms are homely and quite spacious.  They include  satellite TV with pay per view, personally controlled air-conditioning and heating, a direct telephone. A minibar and a safe.  The full bathrooms all have hair dryers as well.  The rooms at the front of the hotel will be noisiest but also get a lot of light throughout the day.

Hotel Location and Facilities

Gran Via is a main road and therefore has good facilities.  There is a terrace café right next to the hotel on the corner, and a pharmacy on the opposite corner.  The Club D´Ore directly opposite is in fact a cinema, but doesn’t play films in English unfortunately. Look out for cinemas with "VO = version original" for films in their original language.

If you turn left out of the hotel then you will come across two banks just a few steps away.  Walking into the centre of the city will take no more 10 minutes, the nearest metro stop at Universitat is a shorter distance.  Alternatively, if you want to see Placa Espanya and Montjuic then just carry on walking down Gran Via in the opposite direction and you will see it in 10-15 minutes.

How to travel from the airport to the hotel

Via Taxi A taxi from the airport will take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 - 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Passeig de Gracia, in about 25 mins and costs 3.00 Euros for a single ticket. You then need to change for the Metro Purple Line to Universitat. Your hotel is a short 5 minute walk from the metro.

Via Bus The Aerobus will also take you from the Airport to Catalunya station and costs 4.25 Euros. The journey time is around 30 minutes. From Catalunya you need to take the Red line metro to Universitat.
