Review Casa Camper Hotel Barcelona

Casa Camper Hotel
Reservation Information For The Casa Camper Hotel

To understand Casa Camper Hotel Barcelona it is first necessary to understand Camper shoes. You may not think that you know the brand but, trust me, you do. The camper shoe has a very distinctive style. Their shoes are for both men and women and have been ergonomically designed to ensure that comfort is paramount. They produce many different models of shoe, but all have a distinctively ‘Camper’ look to them. Love them or hate them, they are unique. The same can be said for Camper’s new project – hotels.

The Camper Hotel in Barcelona sits deep in the heart of the area of Raval. This area is known for being slightly rough at times, but also increasingly trendy and popular amongst tourists. It is the home of many museums, art galleries, shop and bars. Casa Camper Hotel does not have a classic hotel facade. It lurks inside an old building, with shiny red sliding doors, that work well in contradiction with the crumbling oldness of the building. It is not easy to find the entrance door itself.

At the entrance there is an air of exclusivity that seems strangely at odds with the open-minded approach of the hotel. There is a key system ensuring that nobody can enter the lobby area of the building without a key for the hotel. This means that the lobby area is extremely serene, which comes as a shock following the hustle bustle of the street directly outside. A forest of bikes hang above your head. There is an air of an artist’s studio or workplace, with large, functional maps of Barcelona along the walls. Across the back wall large photographs of colourful Spanish shop facades have been printed onto the wall.

Hotel Facilities:

The hotel has taken a novel approach to dining. On the ground floor of the hotel there is an area that would usually be perceived to be the area where buffet breakfast is served. Casa Camper provide similar offerings but without the limits of set hours. The area offers a buffet of yoghurts, sandwiches, fruits and salads that is available to guests at all times. This is all free of charge. During breakfast hours (07:00 – 11:30) the buffet is extended and hot food is also available.

There is a terrace area at the side of the hotel with a ‘wall garden’.

The entire hotel is a non-smoking space. There is no pool or gym.

Business Facilities:

There are no meeting rooms in the hotel. There is free Wi-Fi for all customers throughout the hotel. In the hotel rooms there is modem connection. There is also a small business centre with computers providing internet access.

Facilities for the Disabled:

The hotel provides facilities for disabled people. For more details the hotel should be contacted directly.

Rooms:

There are a total of 25 rooms in the hotel. Five of these rooms are Suites.

Each room provides two separate spaces – the bedroom and a small lounge area. In the lounge area there is a couch, but also a hammock. The couch can be used as a sofa bed.

Each room offers air conditioning, a television that can be used for internet, a safe and Camper slippers.

The entire hotel is non-smoking.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

The MACBA Square
The MACBA Square

The hotel is based in the heart of the area of Raval. This area is popular for its numerous small art galleries, shops and bars. The hotel sits very close to the MACBA and CCCB museums. These museums have a reputation for being creative with their exhibitions and offer everything from lectures, to film screenings and photography exhibitions. The square outside the MACBA is a great area to sit, soak up the sunshine and watch the skate-borders who come to the area to practice.

The hotel is within ten minutes walk of the Ramblas, where you will be at the centre of many of Barcelona’s most popular tourist attractions. It is also where you will find most necessary amenities such as internet cafés, banks, pharmacies and supermarkets.

How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Passeig de Gracia in 25 minutes. You can either use the T10 transport ticket from the airport (T10 costs 7.70 euros for 10 separate journeys on Barcelona public transport) or you can buy a single fare ticket for 2.80 euros. You then change at Passeig de Gracia onto the Green Line metro and travel one stop to Catalunya. Your hotel is then 5 minutes walk from the metro.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus' to Plaza de Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 - 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from Plaza de Catalunya, or less than 5 minutes in a taxi that will cost about 6 - 8 euros.

In a Nutshell:

Casa Camper is a that makes innovation a priority. An interesting place to stay for those in search of somewhere fresh and new, in an area that offers the same. This may be less popular amongst those who enjoy a classic hotel stay. However, the hotel’s amenities match its four star rating.
