Review Catalonia Córcega Hotel, Barcelona

Catalonia Córcega Hotel
Reservation Information For The Catalonia Córcega Hotel

Catalonia Córcega Hotel, Barcelona is a classic 4 star hotel. It is located in Eixample – Barcelona’s most well-to-do area. It is, therefore, surrounded by attractive shops, bars and restaurants. It is also located to many of Barcelona’s popular tourist attractions. It sits within 15 minutes walk of the Sagrada Familia, Passeig de Gracia and La Pedrera.

The hotel itself has a classic exterior – an old building houses a glass canopy with flags and ornate streetlamps at either side of the door. On entering, the lobby area is relatively small. The front desk is immediately in front of you and the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. There is a seating area to the right, where green and maroon couches set the tone for a cosy and classic setting. Dark woods are used in the furniture and along the walls. Pop music plays, allowing a sense of informality.

The hotel is not particularly useful for business people as there are no meeting rooms. However, families may be interested in the two suite rooms that are available, as they hold up to 4 people.

Hotel Facilities:

There is no pool or gym in the hotel.

There is a restaurant that serves all meals. Buffet breakfast costs 10 euros per person. It is served from 07:00 – 10:30 during the week and from 07:30 – 11:00 at weekends. At lunch times a set menu (‘Menu del Dia’) of three courses, drink and bread is available for 15 euros. There is also an a la carte menu. Lunch is served from 12.00 – 15:30. Diner is a la carte and is served from 20:00 – 22:30.

Room service is available from 07:00 – 23:00.

No pets are allowed in the hotel.

Day use rooms are not available.

Rooms:

There are a total of 79 rooms in the hotel, over 8 floors. Most of the rooms are either doubles or twins. However, there are two suites that hold a maximum of 4 people.

Five of the rooms at the front of the building have balconies. There is double-glazing on all of the windows and the hotel is located on a quiet street. However, those hoping for a very peaceful nights sleep should request a room at the interior of the hotel.

Smoking is permitted in the rooms on the sixth, seventh and eighth floors. The rest of the hotel is non-smoking.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

Ferrum Restaurant
Ferrum Restaurant

Catalonia Córcega Hotel is located centrally whilst remaining just outside of the very centre if touristic Barcelona. The area of Eixample has a large selection of restaurant and bar options. The Restaurant Ferrum is located on Calle Córcega, a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The menu is typically Catalan, with tapas, rice and fish dishes. The setting is cosy, with stonewalls and wooden floors. It is worth trying to get a reservation for a Tuesday night, as every Tuesday a jazz band plays for diners.

Casa ‘Les Punxes’
Casa ‘Les Punxes’

The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Avenida Diagonal and Casa ‘Les Punxes’. This building stands proudly on the wide street and is an impressive sight – it has six towers with conical points at the top and means ‘House of the Spikes’ in Catalan.

The hotel is also a 10 minute walk from Passeig de Gracia. This is one of Barcelona’s most picturesque streets - it is dotted with old buildings and lined with ornate old street lamps. It is the home of some of Gaudi’s most famous buildings, including La Pedrera (a ten minute walk from the hotel). This building is inspired by the sea and has this theme running throughout. There is a spiral staircase that looks like the centre of a seashell. The building is open to the public (entry tickets are necessary) and the undulating roof provides 360 degree views of Barcelona.

The hotel is also a 15 minute walk, in the other direction from Passeig to Gracia, to the Sagrada Familia. This is a large church that was designed by Gaudi and never completed before his death. It is a work in progress and many people enjoy returning to the city to see what changes have been made since their last trip.

How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Passeig de Gracia in 25 minutes. You can either use the T10 transport ticket from the airport (T10 costs 7.70 euros for 10 separate journeys on Barcelona public transport) or you can buy a single fare ticket for 2.80 euros. From Passeig de Gracia you take the Green Line on the metro to Diagonal, from here the hotel is a 5 minute walk. Alternatively, if you have a lot of the luggage, a taxi would take 5 minutes and cost around 6 euros.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus' to Plaza Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 - 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. A single will cost 4.25 euros. From Plaza Catalunya you can take the Green Line from Catalunya to Diagonal; from the metro station the hotel is a 5 minute walk.
