Review Citypark Pelayo Hotel Barcelona

Citypark Pelayo Hotel
Reservation Information For The Citypark Pelayo Hotel

Citypark Pelayo Hotel Barcelona is located at the very heart of Barcelona’s touristic centre. It sits on the road that links Plaza Catalunya to Plaza Universitat  - two of the city’s most well known squares. It is a tiny hotel with a modern feel. The lobby area is very small, with no seating area. It is filled by a hexagonal wooden front desk with wide white lampshades looking down onto it. The theme is black and cream and the area is given a sense of space due to its glass façade.

There are few amenities in the hotel, with no spa gym or business facilities. However, the hotel is likely to appeal to active tourists who hope to be in the centre of the action and need little more from their hotel than a place to rest their head.

Despite the hotel’s small size it can offer triple rooms, which may be useful for small families or groups of friends.

Hotel Facilities:

There is no pool or gym in the hotel. There is no restaurant. However, buffet breakfast is served for 9 euros plus tax. It is served from 07:30 – 10:30 during the week and from 08:00 – 11:00 at weekends. There is no bar in the hotel.

Room service is not available.

No pets are allowed in the hotel.

Check-in time is at 12:00 and check-out time is also at 12:00.

Business Facilities:

There are no meeting rooms available in the hotel.

There is also no Wi-Fi or computers.

Facilities for the Disabled:

There are 2 rooms available in the hotel that are suitable for wheelchair users. They have widened doors and adapted bathrooms. There are lifts to all floors.

Rooms:

There are a total of 47 rooms in the hotel over 6 floors. The rooms available are singles, twins, doubles and triples. There is also one suite that sleeps two people and has its own Jacuzzi.

All rooms have double-glazing. However, it is worth noting that the hotel is located on a major road. All of the rooms are exterior. The rooms on the first floor and at the corners of the hotel have balconies.

All rooms include air conditioning, a safe, a coffee maker and a mini-bar.

The entire hotel is non-smoking.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

The hotel’s location may prove to be one of its most attractive features to tourists. It is located on a road that comes off of Plaza Catalunya. This Plaza sits at the top of the Ramblas – Barcelona’s most famous street. This street is popular due to its street entertainers, souvenir shops and terraces. Be warned that food and drink on this strip will be more expensive than at places just off the Ramblas and not necessarily good quality due to its popularity with tourists.

El Triangle Shopping Centre
El Triangle Shopping Centre

The hotel is located a 1 minute walk from the Triangle shopping centre. This is a small but modern shopping centre containing a FNAC (music and technology shop), Sephora (make-up and cosmetics shop) and a Habitat (home furnishings shop). It also contains chains such as Häagen-Dazs and Subway.

Those looking for a more authentic Barcelona experience can head down one of the streets opposite the hotel such as Calle Tallers, into the heart of Raval. This area is known for being the most rough and ready section of Barcelona’s old town, but it contains many gems. It is popular amongst locals for its trendy bars, independent shops and small galleries. It is the home of the MACBA modern art museum and the CCCB centre of contemporary culture.

In the other direction a more affluent part of town can be found. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Passeig de Gracia. This wide street is paved with patterned paving stones and lined with ornate wrought iron street lamps. It is one of Barcelona’s major shopping locations and is the home of many designer stores such as Gucci, Prada and Burberry.

How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Passeig de Gracia in 25 minutes. You can either use the T10 transport ticket from the airport (T10 costs 7.70 euros for 10 separate journeys on Barcelona public transport) or you can buy a single fare ticket for 2.80 euros. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the station. Alternatively, you can take the purple line metro at Passeig de Gracia  to Universitat; from the metro station the hotel is a 2 minute walk.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus ' to Plaza Universitat from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 - 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from Plaza Universitat.

Reservation Information For The Citypark Pelayo Hotel

In a Nutshell:

Citypark Pelayo Hotel Barcelona is small but sweet – centrally located with affordable rates. Its clean and bright interior sets an example for other hotels in the area where central location is often an excuse for shabbiness. The small space and lack of amenities may not appeal to those looking for a luxury hotel experience.
