Review Ciutat Hotel Barcelona
Hotel Ciutat Barcelona is located on a lively street at the centre of the district of El Born. It is well suited to the area, which is popular for its stylish bars, small art galleries and boutique shops. The hotel’s style is modern but subtle - the lobby area uses maroons and creams, with leather couches, large vases and a slick black front desk.
It offers an impressive selection of amenities that are not often found in 3 Star hotels - a rooftop terrace with a small swimming pool, free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel plus internet corner and a high-standard Japanese restaurant on its premises. All of this comes at the price of being slightly outside of Barcelona’s touristic centre. However, this may appeal to those who are return visitors to the city and are more interested in staying in an attractive and cosmopolitan area than in being close to the sights.
Hotel Facilities:
 |
| The roof-top pool |
Hotel Ciutat Barcelona offers a roof-top terrace on its 6th floor. The area is L-shaped and provides tables and chairs along one side and a pool with loungers along the other. The pool is very small – approximately 5 metres in length by 3 metres in width. It is unheated, however, it is open all year round, from 09:00 – 21:00. A wall overlooks the pool displaying an exotic mural of lizards and butterflies. The whole area offers impressive views of the city of Barcelona across its varied rooftops and forest of aerials.
There is no gym in the hotel. There is also no bar.
The hotel’s restaurant is next-door’s El Japonese. The restaurant is on the lower ground floor, with large windows allowing light to stream onto its large wooden tables. A continental buffet breakfast is served in this area at an additional price of 10.70 euros. Breakfast is served from 07:00 – 11:00 (helpfully late for those who like a lie-in!). There is also a ‘Menu del Dia’ available at lunchtime (13:00-16:00) for 12 euros – this comprises three courses plus a drink and offers options such as sushi and ramen noodles. The dinner menu is a la carte and, similar to lunch, it offers strictly Japanese style food.
Business Facilities:
There are no meeting or conference rooms in the hotel. However, there is a small internet corner with three computers available. They offer both internet and Photoshop free of charge. There is also free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
Facilities for the Disabled:
There is a room that has been adapted for wheelchair use on each floor of the hotel – 5 in total. Each of these rooms had widened doors and a special shower fitted. There are lifts to all floors. Unfortunately, the hotel pool does not have a special lift for wheelchair users.
Rooms:
There are a total of 78 rooms in the hotel across 5 floors. All rooms are either single or double and there is one Suite on offer, with a double bed. There are no options for families with children. Rooms on offer are both street-facing and interior. The street-facing rooms do not have balconies, however, they will provide views of an attractive street.
The windows are double-glazed, however, the hotel is located on a street housing numerous bars and restaurants. Therefore, those who are hoping for a very peaceful night’s sleep should request an interior room.
The rooms on the fifth floor of the hotel are smoking. The rest of the building is non-smoking.
Check-in time at the hotel is 15:00 and check-out time is 14:00.
There is the option for short stay rooms in the hotel. This is subject to availability and the rates are 60-70% of the normal room rates.
Each room provides a television, air-conditioning, sound-proofing and ADSL

| The Picasso Museum |
Hotel Ciutat Barcelona is located on a street that runs through the heart of the El Born district. This is an area that is part of Barcelona’s old town and probably its most classy. It is popular amongst both tourists and locals, due to its interesting restaurants, small and pretty streets and boutique shops.
The area is also home to numerous museums and art galleries. One of the most popular museums is the Museu de Xocolat (Museum of Chocolate), for obvious reasons! The Picasso Museum is also in the area. Its long queues at weekends are testament to its popularity.
