Review Condal Hotel Barcelona

Hotel Condal
 Reservation Information For Condal Hotel

Hotel Condal Barcelona is a clean and affordable hotel 100 metres from the centre of the Ramblas. For a lot of people travelling to the city this may be the ideal description of what they are hoping to find in terms of accomodation. It is not surprising then, that this is a very popular hotel.

It is clean, decorated simply and lacks the seediness that some of the other hotels close to the Ramblas can display. The lobby area is bright, with light marble floors and a wooden front desk. Although the exterior is old, the interior appears to have been refurbished reasonable recently.

The corridors along which the rooms run face a bright courtyard space, allowing for much light to come through the large windows. This helps to make the small spaces feel light and makes the most of smaller spaces.

The hotel provides the basic amenities in a location that is perfect for those who wish to be at the heart of Barcelona’s touristic centre.

Hotel Facilities:

There is no pool, fitness centre, restaurant or bar. However, there is a cafeteria that is open from 08:00 until 12:00. Buffet breakfast is an option here at 5 euros. However, it is also possible to order other options from the small canteen – style hatch.

Pets are not allowed. Smoking is permitted in most areas of the hotel. However, there are a few rooms that are non - smoking.

The check – in time for the hotel is after 14:00. The check – out time is before 14:00. This is an uncommonly late check – out time, which may appeal to those with later flights or plans for a late night!

There is no option for short stay in the hotel.

Business Facilities:

There are no business facilities in the hotel. However, there is free wi – fi available for free on the ground floor of the hotel.

Facilities for the Disabled:

One room in the hotel has been adapted for wheelchair use. It has widened doors and a special shower. There are lifts to all floors.

Rooms:

There are a total of 53 rooms in the hotel over 5 floors. There are single and double rooms available.

The rooms overlooking the street have balconies. Considering the hotel’s very close proximity to the Ramblas it is worth bearing in mind that these rooms may involve some noise from the street. These rooms have double - glazing, however, the noise may still penetrate. If you prefer quiet at night it is worth asking for one of the interior rooms.

All rooms provide a private bathroom, air conditioning, a safe and a television.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

The hotel is located less than one minute’s walk from the Ramblas – Barcelona’s most famous street. This has its pros and its cons. It is an exciting place to be. You can enjoy the throng of the street, with large crowds enjoying the street entertainment, the souvenir shops and the outdoor terrace areas. It also a very noisy place, so this may not be the best destination for those hoping for a quiet break

Fruit stalls at La Boqueria
Fruit stalls at La Boqueria

As the hotel’s street name suggests, it is a two - minute walk from the famous Boqueria market. This is a very large food market based on the opposite side of the street. The market has a phenomenal reputation worldwide for its freshness, quality and variety of produce. It is a great experience, even if you don’t intend to make a purchase. Take a walk around the fruit, fish and meat stalls to see what is on offer. But, be warned, some of the sights may not appeal to vegetarians!

The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the beach and port area. It is also close to some of the major shopping areas, such as Portal de l’Angel and Passeig de Gracia.

If you are looking to go out in the area, you will definitely not have trouble finding bars! If you wish to avoid the more touristy establishments it may be worth heading to Plaza de George Orwell. Bars such as Oviso have a young and vibrant atmosphere and are enjoyed by locals as well as tourists.

As the hotel is based right next to the Ramblas you will find many useful amenities such as a large supermarket, internet cafés, bureaus de change, pharmacies and banks.

The hotel’s closest Metro stop is Liceu – less than five minutes walk from the hotel.

How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Estacio de Franca in about 35 minutes. A single ticket costs 2.80 euros. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the station. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the train station if you have lots of luggage. This will take about 10 minutes and cost about 8 - 10 euro. It is also possible to catch the Metro from Barceloneta metro, close to Estacio de Franca, to Liceu. However, Liceu is on the green line, and this will involve two metro changes to go a very short distance. It will involve taking the Yellow line from Barceloneta to Urquinaona, where you will change and take the Red line to Catalunya. From Catalunya you will catch the Green line to Liceu.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus ' to Plaza de Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10- 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is 5 - 10 minutes walk from Plaza de Catalunya, or 10 minutes in a taxi that will cost about 8 - 10 euros.
