Review Confortel Almirante Hotel
Confortel Almirante Hotel is a four star hotel in a central tourist location offering affordable prices for those looking for more than just a hostal during a break in Barcelona. It does not provide the glamour of other four star hotels in the area- there is no pool or restaurant and the décor is simple. However, this is reflected in its prices.
The lobby area of the hotel is long and reasonably narrow. It gives a good sense of the hotel’s style. It offers simple but stylish plastic furniture that is slightly lacking in cosiness, however, touches of character are added with thick mohair rugs, oriental flowers and splashes of primary colours.
The hotel is located on Via Laietana, a main road, peppered with some of Barcelona’s major landmarks, including Barcelona Cathedral and Santa Caterina Market. It also provides easy access to important areas that are in its close vicinity, including the Ramblas; Plaza Sant Jaume, home of Barcelona’s government buildings and Plaza de Catalunya.
Hotel Facilities:
Confortel Almirante Hotel does not have a pool. However, it does have a small gym with weights, a running machine and a cycling machine. The gym is open from 08:00 – 21:00.
The hotel does not have a restaurant, however, it has an area serving buffet breakfast. It is served from 07:00-10:30 and costs 16 euros (plus VAT) per person for hot and cold food. The lobby area also provides a drinks menu and a spattering of tables and chairs, so that drinks can be enjoyed in this space.
Room service is available from 10:00 – 20:00.
No pets are allowed in the hotel.
Business Facilities:
The hotel has one meeting room with a capacity for 45 people. It also
Provides Wi-Fi at no extra cost throughout the hotel. To the side of the lobby area there is a small business centre with two computers with internet access. These can be used free of charge.
Facilities for the Disabled:
There are 4 rooms that have been adapted for wheelchair use. Each of these rooms had widened doors and a shower with a special chair. There are lifts to all floors. Doors have been widened enough to ensure that all wheelchairs, including electrical ones, can fit through them.
Rooms:
There are a total of 86 rooms in the hotel across 8 floors. Rooms on offer are Double for Single use, Doubles and Triples. The windows that are street-facing are double-glazed. The hotel is on a main road, so this is very important.
There are no balconies. However, the rooms from the 5th to the 8th floor provide views of the city.
Smoking is permitted on two floors of the hotel. The rest of the hotel is non-smoking.
Check-in time at the hotel is 13:00 and check-out time is 12:00. The hotel is willing to be flexible with these times where possible. However, an overstay of more than hour incurs an extra charge.
All rooms offer a mini-bar, a safe and free mineral water.
There is no option for short stay rooms in the hotel.
Hotel Location and Facilities:

| Barcelona Cathedral |
Confortel Almirante Hotel is located very centrally for those looking to enjoy the tourist attractions of Barcelona. Via Laietana links the port area to the top of town, close to Plaza de Catalunya. This means that the hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from the beach and the area of Barceloneta, where there are great seafood restaurants and a harbour full of yachts on offer.
A 2 minute walk down Via Laietana is the Cathedral square, home to Barcelona’s cathedral (which is not, contrary to popular belief, the Sagrada Familia!). This large, majestic Gothic structure is worth a visit for both its exterior and its interior. Just across the street from the Cathedral is the Santa Caterina food market. This building can be easily distinguished by its colourful and wavy mosaic roof. What lurks beneath is an impressive market for food lovers, full of fruits, cheeses and meats both from around the world and locally sourced. It is also the home of the restaurant Cuines Santa Caterina, where on-display chefs cook fresh food from the market in an environment where you will find yourself surrounded by the ingredients that you are about to eat!

Just up the road, within five minutes walking, is the legendary Palau de la Musica. This is an old building that is well-known for both its classical music programme and its ornate interior. Please see our Review of the Palau de la Musica for more information.
The hotel is also a ten-minute walk from the Ramblas. Here you will find any necessary amenities, including banks, a supermarket, pharmacies, cash machines and internet cafés.
How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:
Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.
Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Estacio Franca in about 35 minutes. A single ticket costs 2.80 euros. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the station. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the train station if you have lots of luggage. This will take about 10 minutes and cost about 8 - 10 euro. You can also take the Metro from Barceloneta, around the corner from Estacio Franca, to Jaume I. These are both on the Yellow line, so they will involve no changes.
Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus' to Plaza de Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10- 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is 10 minutes walk from Plaza de Catalunya.
