Review Confortel Hotel Barcelona

Confortel Barcelona
Reservation Information For The Confortel Hotel

Confortel Hotel is located at the centre of the Poble Nou area - an area that is set to become important to Barcelona’s financial world, but is currently ‘under construction’. It is part of Barcelona´s new project ‘Barcelona 22@’, to build a business and technology district in the area. For this reason, there is much building work taking place, giving the slightly overwhelming sensation of being at the centre of a building site in certain areas of this district!

The Confortel hotel group have clearly decided to stay one step ahead of the game and are ready for the ensuing trade. They offer a large and modern hotel, catering primarily for businesses. The interior is spacious and light, with bright coloured furniture giving it the playful feel that it needs, to ensure that it does not feel stark or cold. With 224 rooms and as part of a chain group, the hotel is at risk of having an impersonal feel, although this may appeal to those who would like to book a hotel that they can feel sure is clean and well-ran.

Despite the fact that the hotel is primarily for business people, it could still be a viable option for those on recreational visits. It is a ten minute walk from the beach and provides an outdoor pool and gym. It is also very close to the charming street, Rambla de Poble Nou. However, located at the far end of Poble Nou, an hours walk from the city centre, it is not convenient for those wishing for a city centre break.

Hotel Facilities:

The hotel caters largely for businesses and this is reflected in the facilities on offer. Please see below for more on business facilities. Many facilities are on offer to ensure that a customer staying in the hotel with little time to spare would not be inconvenienced. These include laundry service and currency exchange.

It also offers an outdoor, heated pool on the eighth floor terrace, alongside a fitness centre. There is a restaurant on the ground floor where a breakfast buffet can be provided, though this is not included in the room price. There is also a small cafeteria and bar.

There is no room service available. However, the hotel has a special deal with Telepizza pizza delivery company, who will deliver pizzas to your room. I wonder if it comes delivered under a silver dome!

Business Facilities:

The hotel caters largely for business people, which is immediately clear on entering the building. On the ground floor, adjacent to reception is a Business Centre, where internet is provided for free. Wi-Fi is also available for free throughout the hotel.

Looking down over the reception area there are eight meeting/convention rooms available of varying sizes.

Facilities for the Disabled:

The hotel offers eight rooms that have been adapted for disabled usage. There is one on each floor of the hotel. They have widened doors and adapted showers fitted. There are lifts to all floors.

The hotel also caters for those who are blind or partially sighted. Brail is provided throughout the building, there are voice instructions in the elevator and extra large numbers on the telephones.

Rooms:

The hotel contains 224 rooms over eight floors. Some of the rooms at the top of the hotel offer views of the sea. It is worth asking whether you room has sea views when you are making a booking.

All rooms in the hotel are the same and are double standard. This may be a problem for those looking for family rooms. Each room provides an internet connection, Wi-Fi and a direct telephone. It also provides air conditioning.

The hotel’s location outside of Barcelona city centre will ensure a good night’s sleep for those who crave some peace and quiet, as the hotel is situated on a relatively traffic and people-free road.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

Confortel Hotel is not located in the centre of Barcelona and is in an area with little of interest in walking distance of the hotel for those on a sight-seeing break to Barcelona. However, the hotel is well serviced, with a Metro station five minutes walk away. With a metro line close by you will have ready access in less than 20 – 30 minutes to many of the main attractions in Barcelona.

The hotel is also ten minutes walk from Bogatell beach. This is a relatively quiet beach, in comparison to the Barceloneta and Sant Sebastiá beaches. It is also cleaner and is more picturesque.

The hotel is also close to the Forum - a coastal centre where conferences and concerts take place, such as the Primavera and Summercase music festivals. It is also the scene of much of the festivities during the city’s La Mercé festival in September, when large free concerts are available for all.

On strolling around the area you may also be pleasantly surprised to find the Rambla de Poble Nou a mere five minutes walk from the hotel. Each barrio (neighbourhood)  in Barcelona tends to have their own Rambla – the main street of the area and often the hub of the social scene. Although none are as bustling as the famous La Rambla, they all have their own appeal. The Rambla de Poble Nou is a mainly-pedestrianised street in the heart of the area brimming with cafés, restaurants and ice cream parlours. There are plenty of opportunities on this strip to sit in a sunny terrace and enjoy a cup of coffee.

There are also some very enticing local restaurants on and around this street that are worth exploring. Recasens, at 102 Ramla de Poble Nou, is a charming choice. With fairy lights hanging in each low-ceilinged little room and a delicatessen at the front displaying local meats and cheese. It is essential to book at weekends, as this disappointed punter can vouch for!

The hotel is located very close to Hotel Holiday Inn Express. There are further details in the Holiday Inn Express article of things to do in the local area.

How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 35 minutes and cost around 30-35 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Estacio de Franca in about 35 minutes. A single ticket costs 2.80 euros. The hotel is not walking distance from the station. A taxi from the train station will cost around 15 euros and take about 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can take the metro from Barceloneta, which is around the corner from the station, to Llacuna Metro, which is on the same line. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the metro.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus ' to Plaza de Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 -15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is not walking distance from Plaza de Catalunya. A taxi from Placa Catalunya would take about 15 minutes and cost about 15 euros. Alternatively you can take the metro from Catalunya to Llacuna

In a Nutshell:

Confortel Hotel is an affordable hotel, catering mostly for people making business trips. It is slightly lacking in character due to its large size and out-of-town location, but may prove an affordable option for those looking for a beach holiday in Barcelona.
