Review Fira Palace Hotel Barcelona
Just off Plaza Espanya, hidden down an unassuming road stands the
Fira Palace Hotel Barcelona. This large 4 star hotel was opened
in 1992 and renovated to the highest standard in 2002. The standard
grey façade shows nothing of the splendour that awaits guests
on entrance to the huge lobby. In the lobby area there are several
different lounge areas where you can take a rest on the very comfortable,
classically-upholstered sofas and muse over the paintings for sale
which line the walls. This hotel is opulent and welcoming.
Hotel Facilities
The Fira Palace hotel Barcelona has a main restaurant called El
Mall which is rustic in ambience and décor and serves international
as well as Catalan food for those feeling a little bit more adventurous.
There is also a large piano bar rather comically called Scruples
which has live music every evening and a smaller restaurant which
serves a buffet breakfast. The hotel facilities are impressive,
there is a drugstore and a souvenir boutique in the lobby. The gym
is large and there is also an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, massages
are available and there is even a hairdresser and a squash court.
The car park has room for 235 cars and the hotel has a laundry service.
Also my favourite gadget was the satellite newspaper machine in
lobby which can print out any paper in the world in 2 minutes.
Business Facilities
The businesses facilities are also impressive. There are 18 soundproofed
rooms to be used however you wish, the largest can hold 2,500 people.
There is direct access from street level for those who come by car,
and a variety of services such as video conferencing available.
You can hire all types of audiovisual equipment as well.
Rooms
The Fira Palace hotel Barcelona claims to have the largest bedrooms
in the city and I wouldn’t doubt it. There are 276 rooms each measuring 42 square metres. In fact most have 2 queen size beds.
The views aren’t great, you just get the roads down below
which are nothing special, but the rooms are comfortable and soundproofed
and the bathrooms are made from Italian marble. All rooms have satellite
TV, radio, movie channels, a safe, minibar and wireless internet.
Hotel Location and Amenities
The Fira Palace hotel is in perfect location for the Fira, Barcelona’s
huge halls which hold different conventions and shows every month.
The Fira is right in front of the incredibly beautiful Palau Nacional,
which is the museum of Catalan art, in front of which is the Magic
Fountain. The metro is Espanya and is a 5 minute walk away and from
there you can get into the centre of town in 10 minutes. Alternatively
off Placa Espanya are 2 of Barcelona´s largest roads, Gran
Via and Parallel both of which are pleasant to stroll down. The
road on which the hotel is situated also has quite a few nice looking
restaurants and cafes and there are cash points a 5 minute walk
away down Parallel or on Placa Espanya.
Close by there is also all the entertainment you could want in
the form of Poble Espanyol, which is a village constructed in the
different styles of Spanish architecture, here there are craft shops,
fairs and at night bars and clubs.
How to travel from the airport to the hotel
Via Taxi A taxi from the airport should take about
25 minutes and cost around 25 - 30 euros depending on traffic and
luggage.
Via Train The RENFE train leaves the airport every
half an hour and will take you to Barcelona Sants (Estacio de Sants) , in about 20 mins and costs 2.80 Euros for a single ticket. From Sants take the Green line metro to Placa Espanya and the
hotel is about 10 mins walk from the station
Via Bus You could take the Aerobus cost 4.25 Euros
from the Airport and get off at Placa Espanya from here the hotel is a 10 minute walk.
