Review Granados 83 Hotel, Barcelona

From the exterior of Granados 83 Hotel you would be forgiven for thinking that you had found yourself on Ocean Drive in Miami. Its salmon pink marble pillars, glass arch and twenties style signage all have a distinctly art deco feel. The hotel interior is decidedly subtler – dim lighting sets the tone for the hotel’s style. The floor is marbled with a bottle green glass section running down its centre, there are black leather couches and fur rugs. The front desk is backed by a wall of dark brown crocodile skin leather and has a canopy of back lit grey glass.

The dark shades used on the hotel are given a brighter feel with the use of large amounts of glass – the hotel’s façade has large windows. The hotel elevators are also glass and allow guests to see each floor of rooms as they travel up the building. This allows a relatively small hotel to have a very open feeling.

The hotel is located at the heart of Eixample. It is a 10 – 15 minute walk from major locations such as Passeig de Gracia, Plaza Catalunya and the Ramblas.  It is also a two-minute walk from Rambla de Catalunya – a leafy part-pedestrianised street that is littered with café and restaurant terraces – a lovely area to while away a sunny Barcelona afternoon.

Hotel Facilities:

The hotel has a small rooftop pool. An area that is covered in wooden decking with sun loungers, tables and chairs surrounds it. There is also a bar in this area known as the ‘8’ Terrace Bar. There is no fitness centre in the hotel.

The hotel restaurant is named ‘3 Restaurante’. At breakfast time a buffet breakfast is served at a cost of 17 euros per person. It is served from 07:00 – 11:00. For lunch and dinner it serves haute cuisine and offers an outdoor terrace area. Snack food is also available from the outdoor bar area.

Room service is available 24 hours. Pets are permitted to stay in the hotel, but at an extra cost to the customer.

Check-in time is at 15:00 and check-out time is at 12:00. Rooms are available for day use (short stay) on request.

Business Facilities:

There is one room that is available in the hotel for meetings. It is decorated with Roman mosaics from the third century. It has a capacity of 40 people. The rooftop terrace area is also available for functions.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.

Facilities for the Disabled:

There are two rooms in the hotel that are suitable for disabled people. They have widened doors and special bathrooms.

There are lifts to all floors. There is an access ramp to the front of the hotel.

Rooms:

There are a total of 77 rooms in the hotel, over 7 floors. Rooms available are: Single, Single Executive, Standard Double and Suite Duplex. The Suite Duplex Rooms are suitable for families of up to four – there are seven of these in total. They also offer their own private swimming pools and terraces. 

All rooms are soundproof and contain air-conditioning, LCD televisions, telephones, mini-bards, safes and a hairdryer.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

Granados 83 Hotel is located at the centre of the Eixample area. This is an uptown area, very different the winding and narrow streets of the old town, but with its own charm. It is popular amongst wealthy Barcelona locals for classy restaurants, bars and shops. The hotel is located a two minute walk from Ottimo restaurant, on the same street. This Italian restaurant is set in an interesting location with green banquettes and mirrored walls.

Then hotel is a five-minute walk from Rambla de Catalunya. This street is pedestrianised down the centre and is dotted with bars and cafes with outdoor terraces. The hotel is a ten-minute walk from Passeig de Gracia – Barcelona’s street famed for its plethora of designer shops.

Plaza Catalunya and the Ramblas are both a ten minute walk from the hotel. These are popular tourist location. The Ramblas is also a convenient place to fine general amenities such as banks, bureaus de change, pharmacies, supermarkets and internet cafes.

How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Passeig de Gracia in 25 minutes. You can either use the T10 transport ticket from the airport (T10 costs 7.70 euros for 10 separate journeys on Barcelona public transport) or you can buy a single fare ticket for 2.80 euros. You can then change to the metro and catch the Green Line to Diagonal. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the metro station.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus' to Plaza Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 - 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is 5 minutes in a taxi that will cost about 5 - 8 euros. Alternatively, you can catch the metro and take the Green Line to Diagonal. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the metro station.
