Hotel Hesperia Metropol Barcelona is located conveniently close to some of Barcelona's most desirable areas - the port and beach area, the El Born district and the Ramblas.
On entering the building its large and slightly cold lobby does not do justice to what the hotel has to offer. On closer inspection the hotel's communal areas are clean, cosy and bright - with light coloured woods and yellows and oranges used to add light to the building.
It is a great option for those wishing to be situated close to the Ramblas. It offers a quality that would be a lot more costly if it were directly on the Ramblas, at a location only two minutes walk from the hustle bustle of the street itself. Not to mention the opportunity for a good night's sleep!
Those wishing to have a true Barcelona city break may wish to be five minutes further up the Ramblas. However, Hesperia Metropol offers three star standards in a convenient location.
Hotel Facilities:
The hotel does not contain a pool or a fitness centre. There is no restaurant or bar. However, there is an area where breakfast is served. The breakfast buffet serves both hot and cold food and costs €11.50 (excluding tax).
Pets are not allowed in the hotel.
Check - in time is 13:30 and check - out time is 12:00 noon.
Laundry service is available.
Business Facilities:
There is a small area in the hotel called the 'Business centre'. This is a space where there is a desk to carry out work. It also contains a computer with internet access. This must be paid for at the front desk.

Facilities for the Disabled:
There are two rooms available in the hotel that have been adapted for wheelchair users. They have widened doors and special showers fitted. There is a lift to all floors of the hotel.

Rooms with balconies overlooking the street are available. It is worth noting that these may be noisy at night, as the windows are not double-glazed. However, considering the street's close proximity to the Ramblas, it is reasonably quiet and should not cause too much noise pollution.
All rooms contain air conditioning, television and satellite, a safe, a mini - bar and a telephone.
There are no family rooms available.
One floor of the hotel is a designated smoking area. In the rest of the hotel smoking is not allowed.
Hotel Location and Facilities:
Hotel Hesperia Metropol is located just off the bottom of the Ramblas. This is a great location for those wishing to make the most of the Ramblas, without enduring its noise and its seedier side at night.
At the foot of the Ramblas, at the other side of the street to your hotel, is the art gallery- Centre d'Art Santa Monica. It generally displays modern art and is an attractive building with high ceilings and large spaces - ideal for showcasing art.
If you tire of the Ramblas, in the opposite direction on leaving the hotel is the area of El Born. This is an area worth exploring if you are hoping to find cosy bars and local restaurants. Close to your hotel, on Calle del Correu Vell, is my favourite bar in Barcelona - Andu. This is a cosy and dimly lit bar full of chunky wooden tables and mismatching chairs. It is generally always busy, but shouldn't be too difficult to find a seat. It serves quality wine and great home - made hummus.
The hotel is also located just behind Barcelona's Port Vell. A short, ten-minute walk along the sea front is the area of Barceloneta. This is the area where the beach can be found. It is also the home of some of Barcelona's best seafood restaurants.
Located close to the Ramblas, most general amenities are in walking distance - a large supermarket, pharmacies, internet cafés and banks.
The hotel's closest Metro stop is Drassanes - less than five minutes walk from the hotel. This will give you the opportunity to travel to popular attractions further up town, such as Parc Guell (the Gaudi park), the Sagrada Familia or the Gracia area.

Public transport transfer options
Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around €25.00 - €30.00 depending on traffic and luggage.
Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Estacio Sants in about 25 minutes. A single ticket costs €3.60. You can take a taxi from the train station if you have lots of luggage. This will take about 15 minutes and cost about €15.00. Alternatively you can take the Metro from Barceloneta to Drassanes, which is on the Green Line (L3) so it will involve two changes. At Barceloneta it will be necessary to catch the Yellow line to Urquinaona. At Urquinaona it will be necessary to catch the Green line to Drassanes.
Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus ' to Plaza de Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10- 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is 20 minutes walk from Plaza de Catalunya, or 10 minutes in a taxi that will cost about €8.00 - €10.00. Alternatively, you can catch the Metro from Catalunya to Drassanes, from where Hotel Hesperia Metrpol is a 5 minute walk.
