Hotel Barbara Barcelona is a very basic no-frills hotel in what is the red-light district in Barcelona.  However the area is safe, the people are harmless and there is police presence both day and night in the square just outside the hotel.  The hotel is just 5 minutes walk to Las Ramblas. This hotel is  probably best for young, budget travelers - the price of the rooms are some of the most economical for a hotel in Barcelona city centre.

Hotel Facilities

A simple, continental breakfast, served from 07:00 until 22:00, is included in the price of your stay.  There is no curfew and there are smoking rooms available.  The hotel will store your luggage and there is a safety box at reception where you can stash your valuables for 3 euros.  In the lobby there are water, Pepsi and snack machines.  There is also a common room.

Business Facilities

There are no business facilities in this hotel.

Rooms

The rooms are small but clean and sheets and towels are provided.  All 58 rooms have a telephone and a safe.  There are 4 single rooms.  Rooms all have bathrooms and either look out onto the street below or a courtyard at the back of the hotel.

Area around Hotel Barbara Hotel Location and Facilities

The area in which the hotel is situated is safe although you will find quite a few “ladies of the night” outside.  Also because there is an ethnic majority in the area you are spoiled for choice of mini-markets, souvenir shops and café/ bars.  There is a pharmacy near the end of the road by Las Ramblas.  Las Ramblas is a 5 minute walk away and there you will find lots of restaurants, shops and banks.  The nearest metro stop is Liceu just in the middle of Las Ramblas, but you won’t need the metro with such a central position.  Placa Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia are a 15 minute walk away, as is the heart of the Gothic Quarter.  You could also walk to the beach in 15 minutes.

How to travel from the airport to the hotel

Via Taxi A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 - 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Passeig de Gracia station in about 25 mins and costs 2.60 Euros for a single ticket. You then have to take the green line metrometro from Passeig de Gracia to Liceu station and the Hotel is 5 minutes walk from the metro stop.

Via Bus The Aerobus will also take you from the Airport to Placa Catalunya and costs 3.90 Euros. The journey time is around 30 minutes. From Catalunya you need to catch the Green line metrometro to Liceu and the hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the metro stop.

In a Nutshell

The hotel Barbara offers good value for money a very central location, perhaps it could be quite noisy at night, very much recommended for young people and backpackers.
