The relatively new and thoroughly modern Hotel Barcelona Princess stands out in the architectural landscape of Barcelona. However the avant-garde design, and striking orange and blue colour scheme is very much in keeping with the current renovation of the area in which it stands, the Forum, Barcelona’s new business district. The Princess Hotel is at the moment an architectural rarity in Barcelona, with it’s daring looks and contemporary style, however I am sure there will be many who follow its example. Hotel Barcelona Princess Interior and RoomsFrom first entering the hotel it becomes obvious that everything has been done to the highest specification. The lobby is huge and continuing the exterior colour scheme the lounge is filled with designer furniture, with lights dangling like spaceships from the high ceiling. There are 364 rooms in total which includes a staggering 38 junior suites and 2 Princess suites. The rooms are elegant with fittings of the highest quality. All of the rooms have free ADSL internet, a free minibar, safe, satellite TV, king size beds, and due to the tremendous height of the hotel most have panoramic views over the city or out onto the sea. Hotel FacilitiesOne of the unique features of Princess Hotel is the standard and amount of facilities there are, you really get value for money in this sense. The Princess has an unheard of 2 swimming pools for a start. One on the 23rd floor allowing a sweeping view of the entire city and one on the 3rd floor attached to the fitness centre. Staying at the hotel of course gives you free access to the Spazone Spa and fitness centre which includes a gym, sauna, Jacuzzi, heated outdoor pool, massage parlour and the “gym bar” terrace. There are 3 bars for you to choose from, though I recommend the Princess Crown Bar which is on the 23rd floor and is otherwise known as the viewing bar, and for good reason, the views are spectacular, especially at night. There are also 2 restaurants: The Number 1 which is open for all meals from 07:00 to 23:00, and Estrella which has the same opening hours and apparently does a very good buffet most days. After your meal you can head to the Sala Dali and relax into one of his famous lips sofas. Parking is available at Hotel Barcelona Princess The Hotel Barcelona Princess is perfect for business. The facilities are good and the hotel itself has a professional aura, it’s not the kind of hotel you go to feel homely. It’s slick and modern and has everything you need for a comfortable business trip. The conference rooms in Hotel Princess are spacious and have been well designed to provide natural light and good views, should your mind need a wander. Amenities in the areaHotel Barcelona Princess is situated at the start of one of Barcelona’s longest and most important roads. However you are quite far out of the centre of town, a good 20 minute metro ride, which for Barcelona is quite far! However the Forum area is enjoying a new lease of life and money has been plowed in to renovate the district. This means that right next to the hotel is one of Barcelona’s biggest shopping complexes, Diagonal al Mar. Fear not if those words strike fear into your heart, this isn’t just a mall filled with teenagers on the weekend. It is actually a well designed space which includes shops, a nice outdoor, terraced food hall, which is a good place for a cheap breakfast, and spaces for exhibitions. The Shopping centre also has cash points, naturally, post boxes and newsagents. There is also a small supermarket on Calle de Llull which is a two minute walk away. For business, the Hotel Princess is a short walk away from The Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB). Hotel Barcelona Princess LocationIf you are looking for a hotel in the heart of the culture and history of the city then this is not the place for you. Hotel Princess is located in the suburbs of Barcelona, a 20 minute metro ride from the centre of town. However there are some good points to this. For a start it’s very quiet, you would never get this good a nights sleep in the centre of town. It is also the hotel’s location that allows the building to be so immense and the facilities to be so comprehensive. The location of the Princess Hotel also means that you are a 5 minute walk away from 4km of relatively unspoilt beaches from Playa de la Nova Mar to Playa de la Nova Icaria, although if you are a modest sort then beware that 15 minutes walk along the beach and you will find yourself at Playa de La Mar Bella which is an unofficial nudist beach however normally the non-nudists out number the nudist bathers. If you fancy a bit of a walk then why not head up Diagonal to Glories and visit Barcelona’s biggest flea market Mercat de les encants. Full to the brim of bric-a-brac, antique furniture, cosmetics, 2nd hand clothes, you should allow a full morning to have a look around. If you actually are serious about getting some bargains then its worth going early in the morning.
