You can’t help but smile when you walk into the cheerful,
bright lobby of the Hotel Diagonal Port Barcelona which is full
of large contemporary paintings. In fact the Rafael hotel Diagonal
port owns a large collection of work by avant-garde Catalan artists,
the painting are hung all around the hotel. It is unsurprising that
the Rafael chain is one of the youngest in Spain, it shows in their
design and décor.
The multi-lingual staff also do their best to give you a warm welcome.
In fact the only negative point is that although the hotel is very
close to the beach, many of the rooms at the front of the hotel
have to look out onto what is at the moment a disused piece of land,
however I’m sure this is only temporary.

Facilities
The Hotel Diagonal Port has a garage with 60 spaces, and a laundry
service. There is a tourist information department which can help
you organize tours or give advice as to where to visit.
The garden terrace is a lovely place to sit and have a coffee,
the terrace backs onto a park. There is a restaurant called the
Alacena which not surprisingly being this close to the sea, serves
up Mediterranean cuisine. After dinner you may want to have a drink
at the bar hall.
Business Facilities
The hotel has 7 conference rooms, 5 of which you can divide by
partition walls. The largest room is 312 metres squared and can
hold 300 people for a party, 210 seated. The smallest is a more
modest 68 metres squared. The rooms all have a good amount of natural
light, a sea view which could be a good or bad thing depending on
how easily distracted you are, temperature controls and cordless
phones. Despite the comprehensive business services available when
I went to the hotel it was full of normal tourists, so this may
be a good option if you want to escape the people in suites for
a while.
Rooms
The rooms continue the bright and breezy feel of the whole hotel.
There are 105 rooms and 10 suites all with en-suite marble bathrooms
with hairdryers. The rooms come complete with temperature control,
minibar, safe, pay TV, internet connection, satellite TV and piped
music. The desks are also large if you need to continue working
once your meeting is over.
The Rafael also has rooms for the disabled.
Hotel location and facilities
 The
hotel is two minutes away from the beach which is why it is so popular
with normal tourists and families as well as those in Barcelona
on business. Walk up Lope de Vega and you will be in Poblenou which
is a lovely, Catalan area to have a walk. Stop in one of the corner
cafes just up the road and have coffee or breakfast, or keep on
going and you’ll find a cash point and fruit shop.
How to travel from the airport to the hotel
Via Taxi A taxi from the airport should take
about 25 minutes and cost around 25 - 30 euros depending on traffic
and luggage.
Via Train The RENFE train leaves the airport every
half an hour and will take you to Catalunya station, in about 30
mins and costs 2.80 Euros for a single ticket. You then have to
change here for the Green Line  Metro to Passeig de Gracia
and then change onto the yellow line metro. Your nearest
metro stop is Selva Del Mar and the hotel is a
short 10 minute walk from the metro.
Via Bus The Aerobus will also take you from the
Airport to Catalunya station and costs 4.25 Euros. The journey time
is around 30 minutes. From Catalunya you need to follow the instructions
above for taking the metro.

In a nutshell
I loved this hotel, it has a very good atmosphere. When I went
there were teenagers to old age pensioners to businessmen all milling
around in the split level lobby, which shows that this hotel is
popular with all sorts. If you want to be by the beach, but also
close to an old part of town then I recommend this hotel. It’s
a good choice for anyone, young people love the beach, older people
the culture and quietness of the area.
