Review Laietana Hotel Barcelona

Page Content

Hotel Laietana Barcelona is based within a beautiful old building on a main road leading from the port area to the centre of town. It is at a pivotal point for some of Barcelona's most attractive areas- El Born, where the well-heeled of Barcelona like to shop and eat out; Plaza Sant Jaume, home of Barcelona's council and government buildings and Port area, home of the yachts and adjacent to the beach.

The hotel itself has all of the markings of a quality traditional four-star hotel. Its lobby area has a sense of old-school grandeur, with marble floors and dark wooden furniture. The staff at the front desk are helpful and friendly in answering questions. Its services are conclusive, despite the lack of certain amenities.

For those looking for a more luxurious hotel experience, the hotel may fall short on offerings- there is no pool, gym or restaurant. However, this hotel may prove perfect for active tourists who prioritise location over luxury and style.

The hotel contains a total of 62 rooms over 6 floors. There are 56 double rooms, 5 single rooms and one suite. There are no family rooms, however, cots are available for in the rooms.

All rooms include a telephone, television, a mini-bar, air conditioning and a safe. Some of the rooms offer special water massage baths.

One floor of the hotel is a designated smoking area. Smoking is not permitted in the rest of the hotel.

When booking your room it is worth asking about the various options for views and noise issues. Rooms at the front of the hotel provide views of the street and have balconies. However, these rooms will be noisier as they look down onto a busy main road. The rooms at the back of the hotel provide views of Barcelona cathedral. They are also a quieter option.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

Hotel Laietana is located on Via Laietana - one of Barcelona's main roads, leading from the Port Vell area to close to Plaza Catalunya at the top of the Ramblas. Due to this, the hotel is well-located at a central point for lots of Barcelona's top spots.

The hotel is a ten-minute walk from the beach. At the bottom of Via Laietana, a mere 5 minute walk away is the Port Vell area. This is a nice scene for an evening stroll, with hundreds of yachts bobbing in the water and many bustling seafood restaurants.

Hotel Laietana also sits at the start of the area of El Born. If you head down Calle de l'Argentera you will encounter numerous nice shops and restaurants. The restaurant, Taller de Tapas is located at number 51 and is a popular tourist destination for tapas. It offers an accessible tapas experience for those wishing to learn about the typical Spanish cuisine. The food is authentically local, but the menus are available in many languages and staff are helpful in answering questions.

Five minutes walk from the hotel is the cathedral square, home of Barcelona's beautiful old Gothic cathedral. It is also where you can find the Santa Caterina food market - less famous than the Boqueria on the Ramblas, but an equally great experience. It has a distinctive wavy roof, adorned with a colourful mosaic and houses high quality local produce.

The hotel is a fifteen-minute walk from the Ramblas. This is where you will find any of the necessary amenities that are not available on Via Laietana - pharmacies, banks, internet cafés and a large supermarket.

In a nutshell:

Hotel Laietana is a classic old four-star hotel in a location that links some of Barcelona's most enticing areas. It will not appeal to those wishing to splash out on a luxury design hotel with all the trimmings. It does, though, provide space and service in the centre of town.
