Review Medinaceli Hotel Barcelona
Page Content
Hotel Medinaceli is located by Barcelona's Port Vell harbour - front. It is situated in the small but picturesque Plaza del Duc del Medinaceli, where there is a regal statue surrounded by tall palm trees and benches. The location is as close to the Ramblas as it is to the beach and both are within ten minutes walking distance of the hotel.
The hotel's lobby area is large. It has a grand feel, with marble floors and classical furniture. However, interesting touches have been added to give it a modern twist - there are lip shaped couches is the lobby area and Asian bronze statues in the patio area of the hotel.
The atmosphere in the hotel is slightly formal - the staff talk in hushed tones and the setting is regal despite the modern twists. Those travelling to Barcelona for an all - out beach holiday may choose to stay in a location closer to the Barceloneta area. Despite this, the hotel's location, across the street from the harbour area does provide it with a calming element that is less common in hotels further into town.

Hotel Location and Facilities:

The hotel is in an interesting location, close to many of Barcelona's prime spots, even though the area itself is rather quiet. The hotel is a 5 - 10 minute walk from the Ramblas. This offers the opportunity to stroll to the bottom of the Ramblas, along Calle Ample, which is home to a handful of appealing bars and restaurants. A walk up the Ramblas allows you to take in the street performers, occasional markets and souvenir shops.
For a less touristy experience, you can head the other direction down Calle Ample, towards the area of El Born. Here, there are offerings such as the cosy and small Café Babel, offering local tapas as well as a great burger! You will also find Andu bar, offering great wines in a cosy setting.
Straight in front of the hotel, across the main road, Ronda de Litoral, is the Port Vell. This is a nice area to walk around to take a look at the yachts. It is also where Barcelona's popular aquarium can be found. The aquarium is slightly pricey, but worth a visit for its great selection of weird and wonderful sea life. It even offers the chance to travel through a glass tunnel and watch sharks swim above your head!
The Ramblas will be your destination for any general amenities that you may need. It is where supermarkets, banks, internet cafes and pharmacies can be found. It is also the place of the hotels nearest tube stop at Drassanes. This may be useful for if you would like to travel further into town for more sightseeing opportunities.
