Hotel Petit Palace Ópera Garden is a four star hotel in the centre of Barcelona, a few minutes walk from the Ramblas. From the exterior the hotel gives the impression of being similar to many of those on the Ramblas - old and simple, with an understated sign, down a narrow street. However, what lies inside is a very modern looking lobby area. It is a large space with white marble floors, black leather furniture and a front - lit, all glass reception desk. One wall is painted with a quirky design of a musical bar with a musical note.
One of the hotel's most winning features is a quiet and serene garden between its two buildings - it is an attractive and usable space that comes as a genuine surprise so close to the hustle bustle of the Ramblas.
Based a stone's throw from the Ramblas, the hotel's location is extremely central. This will appeal to those who are hoping to be at the heart of Barcelona's vibrant tourist area, however, for those looking for a more relaxing break, a hotel further from the centre may be advisable.

Hotel Facilities:
There is no pool or fitness centre, restaurant or bar. However, there is an area in which buffet continental breakfast is available. In keeping with the hotel's focus on being family - friendly, the breakfast costs €15.00 for adults and €8.00 for children.
There is an outdoor garden area between the hotel's two buildings. This is a picturesque courtyard dotted with old trees. It has wooden decking across a large portion of the garden and provides modern white furniture and interesting cone shaped white lights.
There is no bar in the hotel. However, the hotel plan on providing a bar in the garden area in 8 months from time of writing (January 2009). This will be a welcome addition, as, at present, the courtyard would be a great place to relax with a cocktail.
No pets are allowed in the hotel. However, the hotel does have it's own cat that likes to roam around the hotel garden!
The check-in time for the hotel is 15:00. The check-out time is 12:00 noon.
The hotel do offer their rooms for day use only. However, these will be charged at the same price as for a whole night.
Business Facilities:
The hotel offers various business facilities. It provides two meeting/conference rooms. One has a capacity of 100 people, the other has a capacity of 50 people.
All rooms have an interesting feature that is rare to hotels in Barcelona, providing a computer with free access to the internet.
Facilities for the Disabled:
The hotel offers one room that has been adapted for disabled use on each floor of the hotel - a total of seven rooms (the hotel is spread across two buildings, one with three floors and the other with four floors). Each room has widened doors and a special shower. There are lifts to all floors.

There are a total of 60 rooms in the hotel over 3/4 floors (the hotel is spread across two buildings, one with three floors and the other with four floors). The hotel has rooms for larger parties. It offers single, double, four person and six person rooms. There are a total of approximately 15 - 20 four person rooms in the hotel.
Some of the double rooms offer views overlooking the hotel garden. These are an attractive option for two reasons. Firstly, the rooms will offer a quiet alternative to those facing the street. Secondly, they will offer attractive views of the picturesque courtyard area. Those who are attracted to more of the liveliness of Barcelona should request one of the rooms overlooking the street, just off the Ramblas. The windows to these rooms have double-glazing, so they should not be too noisy.
Each room includes a television, a computer with free internet access and hydro-showers. Some of the rooms include a Jacuzzi - ask about this when booking.
Most rooms are non-smoking, however, the second floor of one of the two buildings is a smoking zone. All communal areas of the hotel are non-smoking.
Hotel Location and Facilities:
The hotel is located right next to the Ramblas - Barcelona's most famous street. Those staying in the hotel should feel sure that they want to be surrounded by the noise and energy of the street.
Opposite the hotel is one of the Ramblas' few culinary gems. There is a small bakery to the left of the Boqueria food market known as Escriba. It has a beautiful colourful mosaic tiled façade that has a 1920s look to it. Inside, various cakes and pastries are on offer, all of which have been hand - crafted with great attention to detail. The café is also well - known for its extra thick and rich hot chocolate.

You will also find yourself conveniently close to one of Barcelona's busiest shopping areas - Portal de l'Angel, where you will find most of the major chain shops such as Zara, H&M and Mango.
The hotel is located about 25 minutes walk from the Barceloneta beach.
As the hotel is based on the Ramblas you will find many useful amenities such as a large supermarket, internet cafés, bureaus de change, pharmacies and banks.

Public transport transfer options
Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around €25.00 - €30.00 depending on traffic and luggage.
Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Estacio de Franca in about 35 minutes. A single ticket costs €3.60. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the station. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the train station if you have lots of luggage. This will take about 10 minutes and cost about €8.00 - €10.00. It is also possible to catch the Metro from Barceloneta metro, close to Estacio de Franca, to Liceu. However, Liceu is on the green line, and this will involve two metro changes to go a very short distance. At Barceloneta it will be necessary to catch the Yellow line to Urquinaona. At Urquinaona it will be necessary to catch the Red line to Catalunya. It will then be necessary to catch the Green line to Liceu.
Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus ' to Plaza de Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10- 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is 5 - 10 minutes walk from Plaza de Catalunya, or 10 minutes in a taxi that will cost about €8.00 - €10.00.
