Regencia Colon Hotel is the sister hotel of Hotel Barcelona Catedral. In many ways it is its less admired older sister. However, this may also be the key to its success. It is a three star hotel, with three star hotel prices, offering the amenities of a four star hotel a stones-throw from its premises. Customers of Regencia Colon Hotel are free to use the pool, gym, restaurant, bar and internet facilities on offer at Hotel Barcelona Catedral.
The hotel itself also offers a lot of charm. Its lobby area has a classical old Spanish style. There are flower displays on wooden tables, ornate furniture, antique style lampshades and striped wallpaper. The staff at the front desk are, as far as I could tell, all old Spanish men, who come fully-equipped with a typically Spanish sense of humour.
The hotel's location is convenient for those who wish to be at the heart of the Barcelona action. The hotel is located just in front of Barcelona cathedral. The only thing that stands between the hotel and a direct view of the cathedral is its sister, Hotel Barcelona Catedral, attempting to steal the limelight again!
Hotel Facilities:
Regencia Colon Hotel does not have a pool, gym, restaurant or bar. However, it is situated next door to Hotel Barcelona Catedral. Please see our review of Hotel Barcelona Catedral for more details. It is a four star hotel and customers of Regencia Colon Hotel are free to use all of its amenities. These include a pool, gym, restaurant, bar and internet corner.
However, the hotel does have its own area where a buffet breakfast is served. This is served from 07:00 - 10:30 and costs €12.00 per person.
As the front desk staff explained to me, pets are allowed in the hotel, as long as they aren't elephants!
Business Facilities:
The hotel has no meeting or conference rooms. There is also no Wi-Fi or internet access. However, these are both available at Hotel Barcelona Catedral, across the road, for no extra charge.
Facilities for the Disabled:
There are no rooms in the hotel that have been adapted for wheelchair use.
Rooms:
There are a total of 50 rooms in the hotel across 5 floors. Rooms on offer are Doubles or Triples (there are two triple rooms per floor). The windows are all double-glazed. However, the hotel is just off the Cathedral square, in a quiet street, so there should not be too much trouble with noise.
All rooms are exterior, however there are no balconies. All rooms provide air-conditioning, television, a safe, a mini-bar and a hairdryer.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the hotel.
Check-in time at the hotel is after 12:00 noon and check-out time is before 12:00 noon. The hotel explained that they are a small and familiar hotel with lots of regular customers. They, therefore do everything that they can to be flexible with these times.
There is no option for short stay rooms in the hotel.

Regencia Colon Hotel is located very centrally for those who wish to be in the centre of touristic Barcelona. The hotel is located in front of Barcelona's cathedral. Many popular locations are a short, and normally scenic, walk away.

The hotel is close to the top of the Gothic Quarter. This is the most famous part of Barcelona's old town - an area renowned for its narrow streets and old buildings. The barrio is full of opportunities to sample local cuisine in small and traditional restaurants. Squares such as Plaza del Pi and Plaza de Josep Oriel are also lovely places to sit on a terrace and enjoy a cup of coffee on a sunny day.

The hotel also lies at the base of Portal del Angel. This is one of Barcelona's busiest shopping streets and is the home of many of the major chains, including Zara, Mango, H&M and the popular department store, El Corte Ingles.
At the top of Portal del Angel you will find yourself at Plaza de Catalunya. This is, perhaps, Barcelona's largest square. Located at the top of the Ramblas, it is always very busy.
The hotel is also a ten-minute walk from the Ramblas. Here you will find any necessary amenities, including banks, a supermarket, pharmacies, cash machines and internet cafés.
