Silver Aparthotel Barcelona is nestled down a small street in the heart of Gracia. A group of orange trees sit opposite its entrance, giving it an inviting feel. The aparthotel’s lobby is simple, with black marble floors and red leather couches. The front desk is large and well–staffed. The reception team are very helpful. The concept of an aparthotel is one that offers the services of a hotel – rooms are cleaned, breakfast buffet is available and there is a 24-hour front desk. However, the rooms are more like small apartments – they are relatively large in size, provide small kitchen areas and some have their own terraces. This will appeal particularly to families, as many rooms can sleep up to 4 people. The aparthotel’s location is slightly out of town for those looking to be in the centre of the touristic action. However, it is also close to many of its own gems, such as one of Gaudi’s building, Casa Vincens and the Gaudi Park. Also, the area of Gracia has much to offer – it is a quiet, leafy area with a generous helping of plazas to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine. Hotel Facilities:There is no gym or pool in the hotel. There is restaurant. However, on the first floor of the hotel there is an outdoor garden area. This sits adjacent to a bar and breakfast area. This allows customers of the hotel to enjoy their breakfast either inside or outside. Breakfast is served from 07:45 – 11:00. After breakfast, the bar is open until 16:00 and offers alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Pets are not allowed in the hotel. Check-in time is at 13:00 and check-out time is at 11:00. However, the hotel are willing to be flexible with these times, as far as possible. Business Facilities:There are no meeting of conference rooms in the aparthotel. There is free Wi-Fi for all customers throughout the hotel. Facilities for the Disabled:There is one room that is suitable for wheelchair users. This is one of the Superior rooms that has wide doors and a special shower. Wheelchair users availing of this room will only be charged standard room prices. Rooms:There are a total of 49 rooms in the hotel, over 6 floors. Rooms are of various categories: Budget, Standard, Comfort, Comfort with Terrace and Superior. The Budgets have double or twins beds. The Standards are the same, but with views of the city. The Comfort rooms are also Doubles, but they have been recently renovated. The Superior Rooms can sleep up to four people and have terrace areas. All rooms offer a telephone, a large plasma screen television, a safe, a small kitchen area with all necessary cutlery and utensils. It is possible to add an extra cot to the room at no extra charge. Some of the smaller rooms can have beds added. This costs 12 euros for children under the age of 12 and 24 euros for anyone over the age of 12. The hotel is located on a quiet street, so most rooms should be reasonably quiet. However, those prioritising a quiet night’s sleep over city views should request one of the interior rooms. Interior rooms look out onto the hotel’s small garden area. Smoking is permitted in the rooms on the first floor of the hotel. Smoking is not permitted anywhere else in the building.
Hotel Location and Facilities:Silver Aparthotel is located in the centre of the area of Gracia. This is an area of Barcelona that is less well known to tourists than areas closer to the Ramblas. However, it has a lot to offer. The atmosphere is friendly and locals may stop to say hello. The streets are tree-lined and house many nice shops selling chocolates, clothes and toys. It is worth keeping an eye out for local ‘bodegas’ – similar to an off-licence but more traditionally Spanish. They are usually very small and contain shelves of wooden barrels of wines that can be bought by the litre. As well as selling alcohol to take away it is often possible to sit at a stool in the shop and drink a very reasonable glass of wine or cava.
One street up from Aparthotel Silver, less than a minutes walk away, you will find the beautiful Casa Vincens. This is one of Gaudi’s less well-known buildings, but it is a must-see. Its exterior is covered in ornate and colourful tiles and wrought iron patterns cover its windows and gate. The famous Park Guell – Gaudi’s park, is a ten minute walk from the hotel. Here it is possible to find many major chain and designer shops. The area is also useful for general amenities. Within ten minutes radius if the hotel you will be sure to find pharmacies, supermarkets, internet cafés and banks. How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel:Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 – 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage. Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Passeig de Gracia in 25 minutes. You can either use the T10 transport ticket from the airport (T10 costs 7.70 euros for 10 separate journeys on Barcelona public transport) or you can buy a single fare ticket for 2.80 euros. You then change at Passeig de Gracia onto the Green Line metro and travel two stops to Fontana. Your hotel is a 2 minute walk from the metro. Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus ' to Plaza de Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 - 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. From here, the hotel is 10 minutes in a taxi that will cost about 10 euros. Alternatively, you can catch the metro from Catalunya to Fontana, just three stops on the Green Line, from where the Silver Aparthotel is a 2 minute walk.
