Issue # 011-

Barcelona's Busiest Tourist Season.

March 2005

Hola

This month we'll be looking at why it's important to arrange your
accommodation early if you're intending to visit Barcelona over the
next couple of months.

I've also put together a new set of pages covering Barcelona's most
famous street, Las Ramblas.

But first let's take a look at the UDON, a bright new noodle bar close
to the Picasso Museum.

Restaurant Review - The UDON Noodle Bar
============================================================

My brother and I stopped off at the UDON noodle bar recently for a
light lunch after visiting the Picasso Museum. If you are a fan of
noodles, like I am, then I can highly recommended the UDON as a
first class noodle bar / restaurant in Barcelona.

Barcelona's High Season
============================================================

Question: When is Barcelona’s most popular tourist season?

Answer: Mid April through to End of August are the most
popular months to visit Barcelona.

During this time you will see a hike in the prices for
accommodation along with a significant reduction in room
availability.

What to do?

Make sure to book your accommodation well in advance
(2 or 3 months if you can)

Also remember that the World Formula 1 racing event will be
taking place at the Catalunya circuit in May (preliminary
dates for the race are set for 6th, 7th, 8th).

During the F1 event in Barcelona there will be additional
10’s of thousands of visitors taking up many of the available
hotel rooms.

Barcelona has one of the highest hotel room occupancies in Europe
with an average year round occupancy of 80% . Remember this is the
AVERAGE year round occupancy value. The hotel room occupancy is
much higher during the peak season.

Lessons to be learned?
Book early to ensure better prices and to be in the running for
securing your preferred accommodation.

If you find that you’re having problems finding an available hotel
room try looking at an apartment rental instead.

Often tourists don’t consider an apartment as an option and you’re
therefore more likely to find availability. However apartments are
also becoming a popular alternative to hotels, especially as you
tend to get more for your money than an equivalently priced hotel room.

It’s therefore still recommended to book as early as you can if you
choose to stay in an apartment.

Las Ramblas - Barcelona’s most famous street
============================================================

I’ve created three additional pages in response to the many
requests for more information on Las Ramblas.

These new pages include interactive maps that show photos
of the attractions and hotels along Las Ramblas.

Here are the new Ramblas information pages:

Barcelona Ramblas Overview

Barcelona hotels on the Ramblas

Barcelona Ramblas Map

Barcelona Ramblas Photo Gallery

I hope that now satisfies your insatiable appetite for Las Ramblas
information!

Barcelona Weather Reports
============================================================

In closing, the weather is finally becoming warmer with temperatures
in the low 20 Celcius or 68F.

Spring is just around the corner and in just a short time you can look
forward to 6 to 8 months of blissful blue skies and warm sunny weather
(fingers crossed, touch wood etc)

That's it for Barcelona Travel this month - see you next
month.

Hasta Luego

John
