Barcelona's Designer Boutiques
By Alexandra Moore
This
article covers some popular and interesting Barcelona Boutiques,
so you can find them easily and delight in the diversity to be found
in this city.
One of the most special things about Barcelona’s shopping
life is the amount of one off boutiques, often decorated with little
touches to make the experience that little bit more special.
A lot
of them are independent Spanish labels so you can go home without
worrying that somebody will be wearing the same thing as you.
Como Agua De Mayo
Carrer Argenteria, 43
Metro:
Jaume 1 (Yellow Line, L4)
A beautiful little boutique which has everything to achieve a complete
look, shoes, clothes and accessories (the Spanish love a complete
look!). Labels include Ailanto, Lydia Delgado and 2 by Josep Font.
Also down this street is a lovely church, Iglesia de Santa Maria
del Mar, which in turn will lead you round to the very trendy area
of El Born where you can carry on your shopping!
If by any chance you’re looking for a
good place for made-to-measure wedding dresses then look no further
than Flora, Carrer Lledo, 4, Metro:
Liceu (Green
Line, L4). It’s a shop located
in a medieval palace. They also have day wear, evening dresses and
knitwear.

Camiseria Pons
C. Gran de Gracia, 49
Metro: Fontana (Green Line, L4)
The shop has been operating here since 1900, which should give you
an idea of the quality and personality you will find in the clothes.
The colorfully presented shop window, combined with clothing from
names such as Julie Sohn, Dos Besos, Fresh from the Lab and Anne
Clair makes the shop a must-see.
Gimenez
y Zuazo
Carrer Elisabets, 20
Metro:
Catalunya (Green Line, L3) 10 mins
walk
Website: www.gimenezzuazo.com
This Spanish design duo has come up with a Summer 05 collection
that is quirky and colorful. Items such as embroidered culottes,
sweet dresses and candy pin-striped tailoring are bound to be snapped
up by locals and tourists alike.
Sugarhill
Carrer Avinyo, 6
Metro:
Drassanes (Green Line, L3)
This is a shop based on beautiful pieces of daywear and accessories
like handmade leather bags. They do wholesale and retail and the
prices are reasonable, I fell for a gorgeous flared skirt for 50
euros.
It’s worth wandering down Carrer Avinyo
(don´t worry it´s not a particularly long street!) as
there are quite few other little boutiques that I don’t have
room to mention, both for the traditionalist and the modernist.
Most notable is Zsu Zsa (pronounced Soo-sa!) which has amazing knitwear.
So-Da is also worth a look in, during the day it’s a boutique
selling mostly international labels such as Boxfresh and Yohji Yamamoto,
but at night the cabinets move back to introduce the bar at the
back..very Barcelona!
Suite
Carrer Verdi, 3-5
Metro:
Fontana (Green Line, L3)
Website: www.martargustems.com
Shoes, Clothes and Bags all by up and coming Spanish designers like
Espera Drap and La Casita de Wendy. Fun, quirky and contemporary.
Plus if by this time you need a break there is a cinema on the same
road that plays films in English (en version original).
Amateur
Riera Baixa, 16
Metro:
Liceu (Green Line, L3)
Creative and original clothing are the name of the game in this
little boutique that also houses work from artists, designers and
poets. You can almost feel the creativity flowing..
Shoes
Twiggy
Carrer Elisabets, 20
Metro:
Liceu (Green Line, L3)
Stylish, elegant sandals and shoes with little touches and intricacies
which make them a bit different. The shop is also right near MACBA
so you can, rather stylishly, break in your new shoes whilst wandering
round this beautiful gallery.
Rouge Poison
Carrer Flassaders, 34
Metro:
Jaume 1 (Yellow Line, L4)
Elegant, sexy shoes presented in an innovative way, in plastic capsules
and on swings. A must for shoe obsessive but this much style doesn’t
come cheap.
Barcelona Lingerie
Le Boudoir
Carrer Canuda, 21
Metro:
Catalunya (Green Line, L3)
Website: www.leboudoir.net
If you’re looking for something sensual to spice up a romantic
break then welcome to Barcelona’s equivalent to Agent Provocateur.
The designer lingerie comes with designer prices, and be sure to
check the sexy accessories that are subtly displayed at the back
of the store.
With this list of Barcelona boutiques you should be well-equipped
to take advantage of the original and creative pieces Barcelona
has to offer. More than that enjoy wandering round some of Barcelona’s
best little streets!
