City Centre Transfers from Barcelona Port Espanya Quay: Taxis, Buses and Walking from Barcelona Espanya Cruise Terminal to the City Centre

On arriving at Barcelona cruise port you may find that you need to make a decision on how to get to the city centre from your terminal. This is made convenient for you with a number of different services for transfers to the city centre. You can go by foot, or alternatively you can catch a taxi. This page will provide you with details on your various options for transport to the city centre, including timings, prices and frequency of transport.


How to get from the terminal to the city centre by taxi

On leaving the terminal building you will need to walk to the front of the Maremagnum building to find a taxi rank. Staff at the terminal liaise with local taxis to ensure that there are enough taxis waiting at the rank to accommodate the amount of people who are leaving the cruise ship in one go.

A taxi from the terminal to the bottom of the Ramblas is not really necessary - you can walk there in less than five minutes (see below for more details). However taxis are a good option for getting from the terminal to your hotel, incase you are not sure what part of town your hotel is in - they will be able to take you directly to your door.


How to get from the terminal to the city centre by foot

Port Vell terminal is one of the closest cruise port terminals to Barcelona city centre. This ensures that it is very easy to walk from the terminal building to the bottom of the Ramblas. Simply leave the terminal building and cross over the wavy bridge that you will see extending out in front of the Maremagnum building. Once you reach the other side of the bridge you will be in an area called Portal de la Pau - where the famous Christopher Columbus statue stands at the bottom of the Ramblas.

Once you have arrived at the Christopher Columbus monument you will have various options for getting to different areas of Barcelona:

  • The Barcelona Hop-On Hop-Off Tourist Bus leaves from the Christopher Columbus monument. This service takes passengers to major Barcelona tourist attractions and monuments. You can buy one or two day tickets and can get on and off the bus where you choose.
  • There is a metro station at the bottom of the Ramblas - from here you will be able to take the metro to all different parts of Barcelona.

tip It is worth noting that when you arrive at the cruise terminal there will be a member of the Barcelona Turisme tourist information team available at a small temporary desk. They will be able to answer any questions that you have in relation to getting around Barcelona.


How to get from the terminal to the city centre by shuttle bus

Unfortunately there is no shuttle bus that will take you from the Port Vell terminal to Barcelona city centre. There is a port shuttle bus but it only services the Adossat Quay terminals. On your arrival at Barcelona Port you will not struggle to find always to get into the city centre. The cruise terminal staff run a very slick operation and they ensure that there are sufficient taxis to deal with the surge of demand as hoards of people leave the cruise ship. Port Vell is one of the most central of all of the cruise terminals. Once you have left the ship you will be less than five minutes walk from the bottom of the Ramblas and ready to hit the tourist action.
