Q: Hi, Can you please advise where I can obtain an independent entry for the Sant Silvestre 10k race run on 31st December?
A: There is no special registration form for individual runners of the San Silvestre 10k race in Barcelona on 31st December 2009. But there is one important thing to know: Every participant of the race needs to have an electronic tracking chip for the run.
There are two different types of chips: the yellow chip and the white (sometimes black) chip. The registration fee is of 12 euros, but varies depending on if you have your own yellow chip or not. Participants who have their own personal yellow chip only pay the amount of 12 euros. All those who do not have a personal yellow chip need to purchase a white chip at the registration (it can sometimes be black coloured, too) and pay an additional amount of 3 euros for the chip, which means a total application fee of 15 euros. Every participant needs to go to the Complex Esportiu Municipal Bella (Avenida Litoral del Mar, 86 - 96) before starting the race to pick up the dorsal number and the chip in case you do not own your personal yellow chip. These can be picked up on Tuesday 29th December (15:30 – 21:00), Wednesday 30th December (10:00 - 21:00) or Thursday 31st December (10:00 – 15:00. After 15:00 no race numbers will be given). When you go to pick up your chip and number, make sure that you bring your registration receipt and your passport).
What is the ChampionChip and what does the colour stand for ?
A ChampionChip is a miniature transponder in a specially designed housing, marked with a unique identification number. The transponder is a waterproof glass capsule that contains a silicon chip and an energizing coil.
Runners Yellow chips (personal 7-digit-chips)
Participants can own a yellow chip and use it in ChampionChip timed events around the world. Your personal yellow chip, bought in your country or abroad, can be used all over the world in many events timed by ChampionChip. All yellow chips have a 7-digit-code. You need to indicate these 7 digits in the field 'numero de xip’.
Runners Single Use Chips (SU Chips)
SU Chips are issued by the events for one time use only. After the race the chip can be kept as a souvenir. These chips are recycled by the organization at the end of the race for environmental reasons and for a humanitarian aid, as part of the paid amount goes to the NGO AFNE in Ethiopia. The SU Chips cannot be re-used in other ChampionChip timed events.
Make sure when you register for this race to choose the correct chip on the form, otherwise you cannot continue the registration process!
