The huge marble-clad lobby, complete with grand chandelier, spells 5 Star luxury from the moment you set foot in the Hotel Intercontinental Princesa Sofia Barcelona.  That is if you hadn’t noticed the immaculate green lawn and suited doorman outside!  This hotel is located in a busy financial district and is well suited to cater for business people who want comfort and luxury.

Hotel Facilities

The hotel Princesa Sofia restaurant, or “gastronomic space” as they call it, is called Contraste and has a decked outdoor terrace.  There is a grill, buffet and a la carte menu, and also occasionally live music in the evening.  For leisure activities there is a mini-gym that is open 24 hours a day.  Or you can make use of the Aqua Diagonal Wellness centre which has pools, a Jacuzzi, sauna and massages.  There is also an attached café and beauty parlour.

Hotel Princess Sofia GardensThere is also the exclusive Club Princesa Sofia.  If you become a member then you are entitled to personalized check in and out, use of 4 private lounges that have views over the city from the 18th floor.  There is also a laundry service and in the lobby there are various shops and art galleries for your perusal.


Business facilities

The hotel Princesa Sofia Barcelona was built with business in mind, hence the 28 function rooms that are available.  All have ISDN lines and the hotel Business Centre offers a fax service, computers, binding, internet and everything else you could need 24 hours a day.  The function rooms can hold up to 1,200 people.  If possible use the Top City Meeting room which is on the 19th floor and has views over the city.  There are also business rooms available.  These are large, decorated with black leather chairs and taupe walls and have dual telephone lines, laser fax equipment, printer, photocopier and voice mail.


Rooms

The Hotel Princesa Sofia is a heavyweight hotel which weighs in with 500 rooms and suites.  The rooms are classically decorated in blue and ochre and have everything that you would expect from a 5 star hotel: minibar, voice mail, internet, marble bathrooms, satellite TV and safe boxes.  The rooms are for the most part light as the hotel stands alone and there are rooms which face every direction.

The Hotel Princesa Sofia is located in the Les Corts area just off one of Barcelona’s main roads, Diagonal.  Just opposite the hotel is a bank and a café.  Outside the hotel is a news stand and just down the road there is a pizza restaurant, another café and a pharmacy.  Everything you could need really. Across the road opposite the hotel is a cash point.  The metro stop Maria Cristina is  3 minute walk and from there you can get straight into the centre of Barcelona in 20 minutes. Just past the metro stop is Corte Ingles, saviour to all foreigners and the place where you will find everything you thought you’d never be able to get in Spain.  Also Camp Nou is a short walk away if you are  interested in football.


How to travel from the airport to the hotel

Via Taxi A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes and cost around 25 - 30 euros depending on traffic and luggage.

Via Train The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Barcelona Sants (Sants Estacio) , in about 25 mins and costs 2.60 Euros for a single ticket. You then have to change here for the Green Line metroMetro to Maria Cristina and the hotel is a short 3 minute walk from the metro.

Via Bus The Aerobus will also take you from the Airport to the city centre. You need to get off at Placa Espanya station.The ticket costs 4.05 Euros. The journey time is around 25 minutes. From Placa Espanya you need to catch the green line metrometro to Maria Cristina and the hotel is a short 3 min walk from the metro stop.
