Some of the best panoramic views of Barcelona can be had when you visit Carmel Bunkers and today is a popular tourist attraction in the city. The Carmel Bunkers (Bunkers del Carmel in Spanish) are the remains of a fortified military walls which were built during the Spanish Civil War in 1937 and used as an anti-aircraft artillery to protect Barcelona from aerial attacks. Large cannons were mounted on these huge concrete barriers to protect the city from additional bombings. After the war, the cannons were then removed and later on was used as a settlement.
Nowadays the Carmen Bunkers is a popular viewpoint where locals and tourists alike go to take in the views of the city of Barcelona with the Mediterranean sea in the background. You will find the landmark situated in Turó de la Rovira hill in the Carmel neighbourhood of Barcelona. Giving you breathtaking panoramic views of the city of Barcelona. However take note Carmel bunkers is situated on a hill, you will have to walk up a few steps to get there. We recommend to wear closed shoes, bring water, a hat or wear clothes to protect you from the sun.

You will probably want to sit for a while at Bunkers del Carmel to enjoy the views. We suggest you buy some fresh drinks at a grocery shop on your way up to the Bunkers as there is no café or bar at the Bunkers. However there will be several street vendors selling drinks but at more expensive price than those you’ll find at a grocery shop.

How to get to Carmel Bunkers
Metro: Alfons X (Yellow Line, L4)
The Carmen Bunkers are at 1.3km distance or 25 minutes walk from the metro station so we recommend you to take the bus V19 on Carrer de Praga, at a 2 minutes walk from the metro station.
You could also use the HolaBCN card which gives you unlimited travel on the public transport system including metro and buses. Tickets can be purchased online. You can then collect the physical card at the automated vending machines at the Airport metro station.
