A few minutes walk away from Park Güell is an interactive multimedia centre called the "Gaudi Experience". I went along to the centre one morning to take a look around and learn more about what they have to offer.
Gaudi 4D Experience multimedia centre
The centre is dedicated to providing an immersive multimedia experience to help you learn more about Antoni Gaudí and his many works.
When you first enter the Gaudi Experience there is a large room which is accessible to everyone completely free of charge. This area contains interactive multimedia information screens, and models of Gaudi's work.
Learn all about Gaudí with interactive multimedia screens
The interactive information screens enable anyone to easily learn more about each of Gaudi's work.
Multimedia screens are a fun way for kids to learn the facts about Antoni Gaudí
The menu systems are designed so that you can access the information of interest simply by touching hot spot areas on the screen. Windows then open out to reveal detailed information about the Gaudi subject you are interested in.
The multimedia screens have high resolution photos of Gaudi's work along with detailed information about the photos you are viewing.
You can move screens around with a swipe of your hand and expand or shrink the screens much as you would a photo on a smartphone. This can make it quick and fun to learn more about any of Gaudi's works.
The information is available in 9 languages which you can select before you start. The available languages are:
English, Spanish, Chinese, Catalán, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Russian.
Some of the Gaudí models are in existance in Barcelona e.g. the "Monumental Centre" in Park Güell. There is also one model of a Gaudí design that was planned for a high rise building in New York but was never actually built.

The highlight of the Gaudi Experience is the 4D Gaudi show. The show lasts for 10 minutes and is called a 4D show because the moving images are in 3D but you also experience kinaesthetic sensations as your chairs bob and weave in synch with the cinema projection, small jets of compressed air are also sprayed at you at appropriate moments and all this with stereo surround sounds. This show gives you a totally immersive feel.
An audience enjoying the 4D show at the Gaudi Experience
The show has scenes of Barcelona streets as they were when Gaudi was alive and you have the feeling of flying through the streets which is quite exhilarating. There were gasps from the audience as the 3D images combined with other kinaesthetic and auditory effects to give the audience a unique experience. You feel you've been transported back into Gaudi's time and get a glimpse of what Barcelona was like then. The theme of the film highlights Gaudi's most famous works including Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló and Park Güell, set in Barcelona and also features Sant Jordi who saves the day by slaying the dragon.
There are no words actually spoken in the performance therefore it is suitable for visitors of any language.
The 4D performance is sutiable for both adults and kids. It is also popular with school visits to add additional entertainment to the multimedia centre.
However the 4D show is not suitable for:
- Children under 6 years.
- Pregnant women.
- People with heart diseases.
- People suffering from backache.
- Prohibited for children under 4 years.
Unlike the multimedia centre however you would need to pay a small entrance fee to experience the 4D show.
