Before we start, you should know that antigen tests are also referred to as rapid antigen tests or quick antigen tests. Antigen tests performed by the testing centres recommended on our website are lateral flow antigen tests.

The testing centres recommended on this page perform antigen nasal tests.

COVID antigen tests are accepted by several countries however as each country has its own COVID-19 test requirements we strongly advise you to check the latest entry regulations for your country of destination to know which are the coronavirus test requirements before you book your antigen test. You can do this checking the official COVID-19 page of your country of destination or the official airport website of your country of destination. All the antigen tests recommend on this page meet the ‘FIT-TO-FLY standards for travel, which means the travel certificate you’ll get is valid for aeroplane flights and any other transport means from one country to another as long as antigen tests are accepted by your country of destination.

Antigen test or lateral flow antigen test - What's the difference?

Some countries such as UK, mention on their official website for travel requirements that you need a lateral flow antigen test. Therefore you might wonder if the antigen tests recommended on this page are lateral flow antigen tests. You might also wonder if the antigen test certificate you'll get is FIT-TO-FLY and FIT-TO-FLY for the UK. We confirmed this with the diagnostic specialists at all labs we have recommended on our site. All antigen tests performed by the testing centres recommended on our pages are lateral flow antigen tests and the certificates you'll get are FIT-TO-FLY, which means valid for aeroplane flights and for any means of transport from one country to another, including for travel to the UK.

The table below compares the different antigen testing centres, their location in the city of Barcelona, their operating hours, test prices, results delivery time and nearest metro.

We have highligted in light green the testing centres for which payment is not required upon booking and for which you'll pay for you test at the front desk of the testing centre, before getting tested. The testing centres that are not highlighted in light green require payment in advance upon booking.

Also, when an appointment is needed before going to the testing centre, we have indicated (Appt) for Appointment next to the opening times of the testing centre. When an appointment is not needed and you can go to the testing centre whenever you want during opening hours with your booking confirmation, we have indicated (NA) for No appointment next to the opening times of the testing centre.

You can also learn more about and book the antigen test that best meets your needs by clicking on "Click to book your test” on the first column of the table.

Important note:

We've been informed by the testing centers that work without appointments (NA) that Monday, Friday and Saturday are extremely busy days for antigen tests. On these days, you may have to queue for up to 4 hours before getting your antigen test. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you avoid getting an antigen test at laboratories that work with no appointments on Monday, Friday and Saturday, if you can. If you must get your antigen test on Monday, Friday or Saturday, we recommend that you book your antigen test at testing centres that work with appointments (Appt) to avoid having to wait in line for hours under the sun. If you decide to get your antigen test on Monday, Friday or Saturday at testing centres in Barcelona that work with no appointments, whether you go to one of the two laboratories that work without appointment recommended on this page or to any other laboratory in Barcelona, we strongly recommend you go to the laboratory before its opening time to try reduce the waiting time.

Generally speaking, there is a high demand for COVID tests in Barcelona any day of the week as more and more people are travelling and need a COVID test to travel. Therefore, if you go to a laboratory that works without appointments, we recommend you go with plenty of time ahead of you and to be ready to wait in line.

The testing centres of Barcelona that work with appointments can plan their testing capacity -the number of medical staff performing Covid tests, the number of testing rooms, etc.- based on the number of appointments scheduled for the day, which enable them to limit wait times.

Antigen saliva tests: non-invasive rapid antigen tests

Most common antigen test type performed is through a nasal swab. However, you should know that there is another type of non invasive and more comfortable antigen test offered: the antigen saliva test. With an antigen nasal test, a swab is inserted into your nose so this can be a little uncomfortable. With an antigen saliva test you’ll only be requested to provide a saliva sample by spitting into a sample container.

Antigen nasal swabs were the first available antigen tests and are performed by all testing centres in Barcelona. As a result, the antigen nasal swab test is the most common antigen test. In addition, most of the visuals referring to antigen tests show nasal antigen tests so you might think an antigen test is necessarily done with a nasal swab.

If you are in the know of the antigen saliva test you might prefer to get an antigen saliva test.

If you have kids and your kids need to get an antigen test, you will probably prefer they get a saliva test, as long as they are old enough to understand that they need to generate saliva and to spit in the sample bottle provided.

We have identified a laboratory that delivers home collection kits for antigen saliva tests to your accommodation in Barcelona, whether you're staying at a hotel, a tourist appartment or at your home.

You can book your DIY (do it yourself) rapid antigen test online and you will receive your FIT-TO-FLY antigen test certificate to your email address, 24 hours after you conducted your test.
