Q: How much time do I need to travel from Barcelona Sants Rail Station to Barcelona Airport? I arrive at 11:00 a.m. at Barcelona sants station and my flight leaves 13:15. Do I have enough time?
A: I have given a complete breakdown of the times for each part of your journey below so that you can calculate if you have enough time.
The transfer time by train from Barcelona Sants to Barcelona Airport Terminal 2B is only 20 minutes on the RENFE train. However there are additional times you need to include in your calculations as follows:
1. The maximum waiting time for the next train to arrive to go to Barcelona Airport from Sants Rail Station. This could be up to 30 minutes waiting time.
2. The time required to travel to Barcelona airport on the RENFE train. This is around 20 minutes.
3. The time required to get to the correct Airport terminal. Bear in mind that Barcelona Airport has 2 Terminals. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. If you are leaving from Terminal 2B then you do not need any additional time to get to the checkin because the airport RENFE train arrives at Terminal 2B. If you are leaving from Terminal 2A or Terminal 2C then you should allow about 10 minutes additional walking time to arrive at the checkin in gates.
If you are leaving from Terminal 1 then you will have an additional transfer time from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 using the airport shuttle bus. The transfer time is only 5 minutes however you would need to bear in mind you may need to wait for the shuttle bus. 4. You also have to check in before a certain amount of time before your flight. This time varies between different airlines so you will need to check with your airline. If you are on a long distance flight then generally the checkin time is 2 hours before the flight. With shorter dometic flights some airlines request you check in within 1 hour of the flight.
Based on the above information you would be able to calculate if you have enough time if you want to travel by the RENFE train from Barcelona Sants Station.
If you find that you don't have enough time by using the RENFE Airport train then the best option is to catch a taxi from Barcelona Sants rail station to the airport. There is a taxi rank right outside the station with plenty of taxis waiting for you. The advantage of the taxi is that the taxi driver will take you directly to the terminal that you need. From there you just have a few minutes walk to the airline checking. The taxi journey will only take between 20 to 30 minutes depending on the traffic.
