Hotels Near The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc?

Q:My husband and I will be celebrating our silver wedding anniversary in June. I have been reading all your information on the Magic Fountain and would like to stay in a hotel close by so that we can walk to the performance each evening. Do you know if there are any hotels close to the Magic Fountain? Would you recommend this area to stay in? , or would it be better for us to stay near Las Ramblas?

A: The area around the Magic Fountain is a good base for your visit to the city. It has excellent transport connections both by metro and bus to all parts of the city centre via Plaça España station. You also have ready access to the Aerobus (the express bus service to Barcelona airport) and also the regular Airport TMB bus. It is also a good place to catch a taxi because Plaça España roundabout connects several main roads together including Grand Via and Diagonal. There is also a large shopping centre called "Arenas" in Plaça España where you can do all your shopping.

The Arenas stadium used to be an old bullring but now it is converted into a circular shopping centre. Here you will find several floors of shops and restaurants along with a cinema complex - however the films are likely to be in Spanish only. The other main advantage is, of course, you are a few minutes walk to the Magic Fountain. You can also walk a few more minutes up the steps behind the Magic Fountain to have magnificient views of the entire city, just outside the MNAC (Museu National Art de Catalunya).
