True Or False, Magic fountain Not Running Due Water Shortage?
Page Content
Q: Is the Magic Fountain closed to save water? I have been told it is closed all year, I am visiting Barcelona in September/October and would like to see it.
A: The number of times I have had to answer this question and variations of it that the answer to this question now warrants its own dedicated page.
The answer is no, the Magic Fountain does not close to save water, even if there is a water shortage.

Magic Fountain with water during the day |
We find that tourists are picking up inaccurate and unreliable information from online travel forums.
This is the correct information:
1. The Magic fountain, is operating to its normal operating hours. It has not been closed due to "water shortages".
2. The Magic Fountain does not operate on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It only operates on the evenings as follows:
Month | Day | Time |
---|---|---|
January - December | Tuesday - Saturday | 11:00 - 13:00 and 16:00 - 18:00 |
Sunday | 11:00 - 15:00 | |
Monday | Closed |
But this has always been the case and nothing to do with "water shortages".
3. Even if there was a water shortage problem in Barcelona it would not have an impact on whether the Magic fountain would operate or not because the Magic fountain uses "Grey Water" which is not drinking water.

4. There are times when the fountain is closed for maintenance however this is not to do with "water shortages" it is only down to the requirement to undertake maintenance. We are not informed of the dates when the fountain is closed for maintenance.
