Sagrada Família Advance Online Ticket Purchase Advice

Page Content

Q: Is it necessary to buy entry tickets to the Sagrada Família online in advance or can we just buy tickets at the door on the day? We only have one day in Barcelona and I heard there can be long lines of people waiting to get in.

A: We advise you to buy your tickets in advance for this Barcelona attraction. The Sagrada Família is the no.1 most visited tourist attraction in Barcelona with 3,000,000 visitors per year and is one of Spain's most popular tourist attractions. There are often very long queues to get into the attraction (between 1 to 2 hours) at entrances that deal with ticket purchases at the door.

Our Insider Tip

The Sagrada Família express entry tickets are included FREE with the Barcelona City Pass. Click here to learn more.

If you have a short time in Barcelona, do you really want to spend your holiday time in a crowd of people in line waiting for one to two hours or more?

If you want to avoid the queues then it is advisable to book your entrance tickets in advance to the Sagrada Família especially during the peak seasons - April to September.

The other issue is that if the Sagrada Família reaches its capacity of visitors then you may not be permitted to enter until the number of visitors inside the Sagrada Família reduces to that of a safe level.

The link below will enable you to purchase your tickets online so that you can "jump the queue". You will also be guaranteed access even when the venue is stopping visitors at the main entrance for ticket purchases at the door.

If you choose not to purchase your Sagrada Família tickets in advance then it's best to be prepared for standing in a queue. This can be uncomfortable if you are waiting out in the hot Spanish sun. It is highly recommended to bring a parasol, sun cream and a bottle of water with you if you have to endure an extended wait. It is not unusual for waiting times to be as much as one hour or more to get in if you intend only to purchase your ticket at the door. This is why we recommend you buy your tickets online before you go for this particular attraction.
