Gaudi’s Crypt (Colonia Güell) in Barcelona

Page Content

Gaudi’s crypt was an unfinished church by Antoni Gaudi that was built in the Colonia Güell, a textile colony in Santa Coloma de Cervello near Barcelona. Gaudi initially planned to build a large church but after the death of Count Güell, the Güell family decided to stop the construction. Therefore only the crypt and entrance porch were completed. The crypt has a main altar with five naves and was built with basalt stones. In 2005, Gaudi’s Crypt was declared a World Heritage Site by UNSECO.
