Latest Covid-Related Updates In Barcelona

This page provides the latest coronavirus updates on measures and restrictions to limit the spread of the Covid-19 in Barcelona, Spain.
The updates are posted chronologically, from the most recent to the oldest so make sure to read the latest post date for the latest updates. In our latest post we will only update the measures and restrictions that have changed since our previous post so keep scrolling down to see the measures and restrictions that haven't changed and are still in place until further notice.

Mobility restrictions in Barcelona extended to the 24 January

The municipal lock-down that is in place since 7 January has been extended from the 17 to the 24 January.


Self responsible statements to fulfil until further notice

If you need to leave Barcelona or the town you live in during the mobility restriction period in Barcelona and Catalonia make sure to fulfil the self-responsable statement for journeys inside and outside the municipality on the official website of the Catalan Government.

If you need to go out during curfew hours make sure to fulfil the self-responsable statement for night journeys on the official website of the Catalan Government.

If you need to leave Catalonia or come back to Catalonia make sure to fulfil the self-responsable statement for journeys inside and outside Catalonia on the official website of the Catalan Government.

The forms are available in Catalan, Spanish and English and you can change the language at the top right hand side of the page.


Bars and restaurants opening hours until further notice

    Until further notice, cafes, bars and restaurants can open during the following hours:

    Opening hours
    07:30 to 09:30 and 13:00 to 15:30

    Opening hours for take-away
    13:00 to 15:30 and 19:00 to 22:00

    Opening hours for home-delivery
    13:00 to 15:30 and 19:00 to 23:00

    It is not possible to eat dinner at the restaurant anymore.

    The capacity inside bars and restaurants is limited to 30% however their terraces are open at full capacity with a safety distance of two metres between the tables.

    No more than 4 people can seat at the same table.

    Bars and restaurants in shopping malls are closed.

Opening hours for bars and restaurants in hotels for hotel guests is different:

Public transport operates as usual.

If you need a PCR test certificate to travel you can easily get tested in a private lab in Barcelona.

Mobility restrictions in Barcelona from the 7 to the 17 January

From the 7 to the 17 January, there is a municipal lock-down every day of the week. It means that if you live in Barcelona, you must stay within the limits of the city of Barcelona. You’re free to move around freely -except during curfew hours- as long as you stay in Barcelona.

If you need to go outside Barcelona, make sure to fulfill your self responsible statement and print it or download it to your mobile phone. Also make sure to have an accreditation document such as a company certificate if you need to go to work outside Barcelona, a doctor appointment confirmation if you have to go to a medical centre outside Barcelona, etc.

The exceptions to the mobility restrictions are the following:

  • Go to health and social centres
  • Go to work or carry out business, institutional or legal obligations
  • Go to school and university
  • Go back to your home
  • Assist elderly, dependent and vulnerable people
  • Go to financial and insurance institutions
  • Go to a petrol station to refuel your vehicle
  • Perform urgent actions before public, judicial or notarized organisations
  • Renew permits and official documents and non-deferrable administrative procedures
  • Take non-deferrable exams or tests
  • Force majeure or situation of need
  • Any other activity of similar nature than the above exceptions duly accredited

    Curfew hours until further notice

    Until further notice, there is currently a curfew in Catalonia and therefore in Barcelona which operates during the following hours:

    Curfew hours
    22:00 to 06:00

    You must stay home during this time period and can only go out for one of the above-mentioned exceptions.


Mobility restrictions on entering and leaving Catalonia from the 7 January until further notice

From the 7 January, entering or leaving Catalonia to visit family or friends is not an exception that enables you to enter or leave Catalonia.
You could enter or leave Catalonia to visit family or friends from the 23 December to the 6 January only.

The exceptions to the mobility restrictions are the following:

  • Go to health and social centres
  • Go to work or carry out business, institutional or legal obligations
  • Go to school and university
  • Go back to your home
  • Assist elderly, dependent and vulnerable people
  • Go to financial and insurance institutions
  • Go to a petrol station to refuel your vehicle
  • Perform urgent actions before public, judicial or notarized organisations
  • Renew permits and official documents and non-deferrable administrative procedures
  • Take non-deferrable exams or tests
  • Force majeure or situation of need
  • Any other activity of similar nature than the above exceptions duly accredited

  • Museums and attractions opening hours until further notice

    Museums, exhibitions and attractions are open within their usual opening hours.

    Their capacity has been reduced to 50%.


    Shops and shopping malls from the 7 January until further notice

    From the 7 January, shops and shopping malls of under 400m2 have to close on weekends, except for essential goods and services.
    Shops and shopping malls of more than 400m2 have to close, on weekdays and weekends, except for essential goods and services.


    Bars and restaurants opening hours until further notice

    Until further notice, bars and restaurants are open during the following hours:

    Opening hours
    13:00 to 15:30 and 19:30 to 21:30

    Opening hours for take-away
    13:00 to 15:30 and 19:00 to 22:00

    Opening hours for home-delivery
    13:00 to 15:30 and 19:00 to 23:00

    Discos, dance halls and party venues with shows or dance floors are closed.
