The exterior of the hostal is in-keeping with the surrounding area - an old building with ornate wrought-iron balconies and arches housing the entrance to the hostal's lobby area. The reception area itself looks akin to an office space. The staff are behind a low desk, at which it is necessary to sit to be at their eye level. However, the atmosphere is far from office-like. The reception staff are friendly and appear to be on first-name terms with customers whom they greet on entering.

The hostal is located in an area that is close to Plaza de España. This allows hostal customers to be within ten minutes walking distance of tourist attractions such as the Ramblas and Plaça de Catalunya, whilst remaining in a quieter area. It is a useful option for families or larger groups, with rooms for groups of four and six.

Hotel Facilities

The hostal provides only basic amenities - there is no pool, gym, restaurant or bar. There is also no buffet breakfast available. However, there is a small lounge area that is available to all customers of the hotel. It contains a coffee machine.

There is a terrace area at the back of the hotel with a table and chairs and shrubbery.

Pets are permitted in some rooms of the hotel. However, it is not permitted to leave the pet in the room unattended.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel free of charge. There is also a small business centre containing two computers with internet.

There are rooms on the ground floor of the hotel. However, no rooms have been adapted for wheelchair use - they do not have widened doors or special bathrooms.

There are a total of 22 rooms in the hotel, over 4 floors. It is worth bearing in mind that there are no lifts in the building, so those with heavy bags booking fourth floor rooms should ensure that they are in good shape!

One of the rooms in the hotel sleeps up to 6 people. Three of the rooms sleep up to 4 people. Other rooms are doubles or twins, in which an extra bed can be added.

The rooms at the front of the hotel have small balconies. Those in search of quieter rooms should request ones at the back of the building.

All rooms provide heating and air-conditioning. Not all rooms include private bathrooms, so those who do not wish to use shared bathrooms should ensure that they order a room with bathroom when booking.

Plaza de Universitat

The hostal is located within 5 minutes walking distance of Plaza de Universitat. This large and traffic-filled square contains many of Barcelona's University buildings. It is also the gateway to some of Barcelona's most mouth-watering shopping opportunities. The Ronda de la Universitat contains many chain stores, including Zara, Mango and Pull and Bear (a popular clothing company for teenagers). The square is also a five-minute walk from Passeig de Gràcia. This is where Barcelona's designer shops can be found - Burberry, Prada and Gucci can all be found on this street.

A local Café

Calle de Sepúlveda - the street off which Calle Casanova runs, is a place where a sprinkling of small cafés and shops can be found. Comic book and record collectors will be charmed by the small 'La Bola' shop.

La Bola

The hostal is also located within ten minutes walk of Plaça de Catalunya. This is possibly Barcelona's most famous square, containing a large pedestrianized central area where it is possible to feed the birds. It is also located at the top of the Ramblas - a must-see for first time tourists to Barcelona for its hustle bustle, street entertainers and tourist shops. Whether you love it or you hate it, you will be glad that you have experienced it.

The Ramblas is also the place where you can find any general amenities that you have not already found closer to your hotel. These include pharmacies, cash machines, supermarkets, bureaux de change and internet cafés.

How to travel from the airport to the hotel

With a private transfer service the driver will be waiting for you at the designated meeting point given to you on the booking voucher. The driver will help you with your bags to the vehicle and then drive you to your hotel. Private transfers are independent of the the public transport system. This means if there is a public transport strike these services will continue to operate.

Public transport transfer options

Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 25 minutes.

Taxi Fare: €30.00 - €40.00

Via Train: The RENFE train leaves the airport every half an hour and will take you to Passeig de Gràcia in 25 minutes. You can either use the T-Casual transport ticket from the airport (a ticket for 10 separate journeys on Barcelona public transport system) or you can buy a single fare ticket. You then change at Passeig de Gràcia onto the Yellow Line metro and travel one stop to Urquinaona and then change onto the Red Line and travel to Urgell. Your hotel is then 10 minutes walk from the metro.

Via Bus: Take the 'Aerobus' to Plaça de Catalunya from directly outside the airport. The Aerobus generally runs every 10 - 15 minutes and the journey time is 30 minutes. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from here. If you take a taxi it will take about 5 - 10 minutes. Alternatively, you can catch the metro from Plaça de Catalunya to Urgell on Red Line, from here the hostal is a 10 minute walk.
