Review: Gran Hotel Havana Hotel Barcelona

Hotel Gran Hotel Havana Barcelona
On a corner of Gran Via, in an imposing building dating from 1872 is the Gran Hotel Havana Hotel Barcelona. Contrasting with the exterior of the building is the simple modernity of the interior. This hotel is classy and popular with conventions. In fact, when I was there, the international motocross convention was there.

Hotel Facilities

Grand Palace is the name of the hotel's restaurant that serves up mostly seasonal Catalan based cuisine. There is also a full buffet breakfast here every morning complete with a dieter's choice menu. In the lobby underneath the huge kidney-shaped skylight is the bar which has live piano music. Sopar & Blues takes place on the first Thursday of every month. It is an event which began 10 years ago and fuses cuisine with some live blues/ jazz music.

One of the best things about this hotel is its sun terrace and swimming pool. Here you can have a swim, relax and look out towards the mountains of Tibidabo whilst soaking up the sun. You can also book a range of massages at the hotel.

Hotel Location and Facilities

The Gran Hotel Havana hotel is in an up-market area of town, on a picturesque part of Gran Via. The hotel is in a central location, a 10 minute walk from Passeig de Gràcia where there is some varied shopping to be had, as well as 2 of Gaudí's most recognizable buildings. Las Ramblas is a further 5-10 minutes. There is a cash point 2 minutes down the road at number 637 and for good cafes I would recommend going to Passeig de Gràcia where you can sit outside and people watch whilst you have a coffee. There is a very old, beautiful pharmacy 5 minutes down the road towards Passeig de Gràcia as well.
