Review Hotel 54 Barceloneta

Page Content

Hotel 54 Barceloneta
Hotel 54 Barceloneta is a modest and modern hotel, offering a perfect location for those who wish to visit Barcelona for a beach holiday. With reasonable prices (particularly out of season) it is a viable option for those looking for a cheap place to stay near the centre of Barcelona.

With 27 rooms it is a relatively small hotel, and the front desk staff are helpful. The décor is modern and simple and the hotel is clean. The roof terrace offers stunning views of the harbour and the seafront and is an attractive feature of the hotel that would not necessarily be expected, considering the affordable rates.

There are no rooms that sleep more than two people, so the hotel may not appeal to families with young children. However, rooms towards the top of the building offer a front-row view of the Port Vell harbour, with the hundreds of yacht masts bobbing against the backdrop of the city's skyline.

Efficiently transfer your luggage between your hotel and key locations like the airport, train station, or cruise port with a reliable and secure baggage management service. Hotel Facilities

Hotel 54 Barceloneta offers budget rooms by providing few extra services - there is no room service, pool or gym. This may not appeal to those wishing to be pampered and to spend a lot of time in their hotel. However, it is an interesting option for busy holiday makers who plan to be sightseeing or sunbathing from sunrise to sunset.

There is no restaurant in the hotel. However a continental breakfast buffet is available, though not included in the room price. Breakfast is served in the hotel's bar, which is located in the small lobby.

There is no room service available. However, the front desk is available 24 hours and I found them to be very helpful in answering any questions.

One of the hotel's winning features is its roof terrace. This is only open in the summer months (July - September) but is a spot to take in views of the city and enjoy a drink from the hotel bar. The terrace furniture is simple but adequate.

Business Facilities

There is one space in the hotel that can be rented out for business meetings if required. The space holds approximately 10 - 15 people.

Wi-Fi is also available throughout the hotel and there is one computer in the lobby with free internet, available to all customers.

Facilities for People with a disability

The side entrance to the hotel, on Carrer l'Almirall Aixada, offers a stair lift for wheelchair users. There is also a lift to all floors. However, none of the rooms are designed with widened doors or special washing facilities for wheelchair users.

Rooms

There are 27 rooms in the hotel, across four floors.

There are three categories of room available in the hotel - Standard, Junior and Suite. These offer either two single beds or a double bed. Most rooms offer views, due to the hotel's location, overlooking both Port Vell - containing the yachts and boats of the sailing set and Barceloneta Beach.

The hotel is located on a main road, however it is slightly outside of the heart of the city centre. This means that noise from the street should not be as intense as it would be in the old part of town, where the streets are narrow and full of bars with people standing outside until late into the night.

All rooms include televisions with satellite, telephones, full baths and the all - important air - conditioning for the summer months.

Hotel Location and Facilities

View of Port Vell from Hotel 54 Barceloneta

Hotel 54 Barceloneta 's location is a major part of its appeal. It overlooks the classy Port Vell and sits at the front of the Barceloneta barrio. The area of Barceloneta is one of the unsung heroes of the city - a favourite amongst locals rather than tourists. It is an area that juts out into the Mediterranean sea, housing lots of charming crumbling old buildings where the sailors used to live. It is less frequented by tourists than areas such as the Gothic Quarter or El Born, however, it contains a good selection of restaurants, bars and cafés. It is the home of Barceloneta beach - generally the busiest and most bustling of Barcelona's beaches, although also perhaps, the dirtiest.

Can Ramonet
Can Ramonet

Barceloneta contains some of the city's best fish restaurants and offers local favourites as alternatives to pricier tourist options in Port Vell and Port Olimpico. A personal favourite is Can Ramonet on Calle Maquinista, five minutes walk from the hotel. This is a very classically Spanish fish restaurant that dates from 1763 - prices are reasonably high but fair and the food is incredibly fresh and cooked with respect and understanding for the ingredients.

The hotel is five minutes walk from the El Born area, which will lead you into Barcelona's famous old town. It is also only a ten minute walk, along the harbour, to the bottom of the Ramblas.

Most general amenities, including supermarkets, currency exchange, pharmacies and newsagents can be found on your doorstep, in the Barceloneta area. The Barceloneta Metro station is five minutes walk from the hotel and may be useful if you wish to head further North in the city to areas such as Park Güell (the Gaudí park) and Sagrada Família (the Gaudí cathedral).
