Review Olivia Plaza Hotel Barcelona

Page Content

Olivia Plaza Hotel
Olivia Plaza Hotel is located on what is, arguably, Barcelona's most famous square - Plaça de Catalunya. It sits at the top of the Ramblas and is a constant hive of activity - the linchpin of many different parts of the city. Those staying at Olivia Plaza will feel assured that they are at the centre of Barcelona's action. This may not be to everybody's tastes. However, for first-time travellers to Barcelona who require quick access to the touristic hot spots, it is in a good location.

The hotel itself has an unassuming exterior. A small sliding door leads to a narrow lobby area where blacks and purples set the tone. The hotel's style is modern, with sharp lines and little that is ornate or fussy. The hotel opened its doors in February 2006, and it still maintains its shiny newness. There is none of the grandeur of the classically Spanish town-centre hotels here. It is more likely to be a popular choice amongst fans of design hotels.

Couples in search of romance in the city may be interested in the hotel's special 'Romantic' package, detailed below.

The hotel offers special packages for couples, at an increased room price. The 'Romantic' package offers the following: a room delivery of flowers, strawberries and cava on request; a 'romantic bath' with petals and tea lights; a breakfast delivered to the room.

The hotel also offers extras that may appeal to families. These include cots and extra beds that can be provided in the rooms.

Hotel Location and Facilities

Olivia Plaza Hotel is located on Plaça de Catalunya, one of Barcelona's largest squares. The square is home to larger restaurants such as Hard Rock Café, international shops such as FNAC and Habitat and a large department store - El Corte Inglés. At its centre is a large pedestrianized area with an ornate stone floor. This is a popular meeting point and an area for people to feed the birds.

H&M

The hotel is positioned well for those wishing to make a shopping trip to Barcelona. It is within 2 minutes walk of Portal de l'Angel. This street contains many major chain stores such as H&M, Mango and Zara. Across Plaça de Catalunya, on Passeig de Gràcia, you will find Barcelona's home of all things designer- Burberry, Prada and Gucci sit happily side by side on this street.

For those who tire of the shops and are in need of some culture, one of Gaudí's most famous buildings can be found on Passeig de Gràcia - La Pedrera. This building was inspired by the sea, and contains a stunning spiral staircase that has the appearance of the inside of a shell. The roof of the building is definitely worth a visit, both for views of Barcelona and for the roof itself - open to the public and flat, with a wave effect, allowing visitors to walk around it.

When hunting for eating options in the area it is worth straying a little further from the tourist options on the square and the Ramblas. A trip into the old town - El Gotico, or El Raval, at the opposite side of the Ramblas, can reap some satisfying rewards. Meson David, hidden deep in the back streets of El Raval, is popular amongst locals, who queue to enjoy their famous meat dishes and seafood soup.

The Ramblas itself is home to many amenities that you may need during your stay. Banks, pharmacies, a supermarket, internet cafés and bureaux de change can all be found along this street.
