Renaissance Hotel Barcelona Airport is a hotel located a five-minute car journey from Barcelona Airport. It caters mainly for business people and those with connecting flights. Its statistics state that 80% of its customers are on business trips, and 20% are on leisure trips. However, it is more than just a business hotel. There is enough on offer in the hotel to allow for customers to have a memorable and leisurely stay. It offers a bar, restaurants, a small outside pool and a happy hour cocktails.
Located at the centre of a large business park and surrounded by looming office buildings, it makes its presence known. Its exterior takes the form of a large green S-shaped wave, allowing it to stand out easily from the crowd. The hotel's lobby area offers a small bar and an interesting ceiling that is studded with spotlights, giving the appearance of a star-lit sky. Its atmosphere is relaxed, with pop music playing and a small 24-hour shop selling everything from toothbrushes to bottles of wine.
Renaissance Hotel Barcelona Airport has an outdoor pool. It is kidney-shaped and unheated. It opens in June for the summer period. It is situated on the ground floor, at the back of the hotel and seems strangely out-of-place amongst the office buildings, with planes flying overhead. However, it is a welcome addition to an area offering few recreational activities.
The hotel also has a small gym with weights, a running machine and a cycling machine. The gym is open 24 hours and is free for all guests.
The hotel's main restaurant is called La Sal Marina, and it offers buffet breakfast. It is also open with a la carte lunch and dinner menus.
The hotel's other eating area is in the Alabastro Bar. This is an attractive space, offering a classic edge to the hotel's modern surroundings, with yellowed marble floors and a grand piano in the centre. This is a more relaxed area, offering burgers, salads, sandwiches and pizzas.
Due to the hotel's situation at the centre of a business park, there is little else on offer by way of eating opportunities, so guests will be reliant on what the hotel has to offer.
The hotel offers a free shuttle bus service to and from the airport. This is detailed below in 'How to Travel from the Airport to the Hotel'.
No pets are allowed in the hotel.
The hotel has 14 meeting rooms of varying sizes. These rooms have panelled walls, allowing for their sizes to be changed, suiting groups of different capacities.
There is also Wi-Fi available in the hotel, but this must be paid for.
There are 2 rooms that have been adapted for wheelchair use. Each of these rooms has widened doors and a special bath. There are lifts to all floors.
Unfortunately, the hotel pool does not have a special lift for wheelchair users.
There are a total of 256 rooms in the hotel, across 4 floors. The hotel is split into two areas, from the lobby onwards- Elite and Standard. Those who have Elite rooms are provided with a special key that allows them into the 'Elite' area of the hotel. This section has its own small lobby, where free continental breakfast is available. It has the feel of a gentleman's club, with low lighting and brown leather chairs. The Elite rooms are similar to the Standards. All rooms offer a King-size bed, however, those in the Elite zone provide carpeted floors, leather back boards to the beds and bathrobes.
All windows are double-glazed and are effective in insulating the room against noise from aeroplanes and the motorway outside. All rooms are exterior, so the windows are important. There are no terraces or balconies available.
Room service is available. There is a small 24-hour shop at the front desk, selling snacks, toiletries and alcohol.
Renaissance Hotel Barcelona Airport is located a five-minute car journey from Barcelona Airport. Those hoping to visit Barcelona city centre are provided with a free shuttle service. There is a hotel mini-bus that takes customers to and from Plaça España three times a day.
The nearest town to the hotel is El Prat de Llobregat, a ten-minute taxi journey away. This is where general amenities such as banks, pharmacies, internet cafés and supermarkets can be found.
The hotel is surrounded almost completely by office buildings, so there is little to do in the hotel's close vicinity.
Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 5 minutes. But, BE AWARE, there is a minimum taxi fare from the airport of €20.00.
Walking: The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from the airport. However, the walk would involve a dangerous journey along some major roads, so it is not advised.
If you are arriving into T1, the bus will pick you up from the Car Park Parking G, a three minute walk from level 1 or 0 of the terminal building.
The bus that goes from T2 picks up from a stop outside each part of T2 - T2A, T2B and T2C. To find the bus stop, look for the large bus stops outside the terminals - you will see a board with the shuttle buses for the various hotels listed on it.
Via Shuttle Bus: Renaissance Hotel Barcelona Airport offer a shuttle bus service free of charge. The bus holds a maximum of 13 people and picks up from a stop outside each terminal.
Renaissance Hotel Barcelona Airport is a hotel that allows its customers to be entertained in an area where there is very little to do. Those wishing for a holiday in the heart of Barcelona will not be interested in this hotel. However, it is an attractive option for business travellers or those who need to be located close to the airport.
