Walking from França station is quite a trek and it's not really advisable if you have arrived with luggage. However, if you fancy getting to know Barcelona then a stroll from Estació França to Plaça de Catalunya will take you about an hour.
You will need to leave Estació França and turn left along Avenida Marques de l'Argentera. Keep walking along the avenue, across Via Laietana (at which point the road becomes Passeig de Colon). Walk along the harbour front towards the tall statue of Columbus at the end of the street. Once you reach the statue you will be at the bottom of Las Ramblas. Turn right and head up Las Ramblas. Once you reach the top of Las Ramblas you will be in Plaça de Catalunya.
